Default obd2 engine, harness, obd1 ecu, 88 hb dpfi

ok.. I posted this exact same thing in honda tech, and got a valid response, but I want to make sure that what was said is really my only option.

from what I gather... to put the d16y8 into my 88 std hb, using the harness from the d16y8, I will need an obd2->1 conversion harness for the ecu.
now.

there is a plug in my engine bay (driver side, directly at the firewall) that doesn't match up to the plug on the wiring harness. we're guessing (haven't traced it yet) that it is going to the distributor. my questions:
do I HAVE to go to MPFI, and then go to OBD1? the impression I got from reading was that OBD1 was separate from MPFI.

if I want to go straight to OBD1 with the d16y8, do I need an OBD1 distributor and injectors, perhaps from a 92-95 civic?

right now, I have only a V-AFC, the p28 ecu, the engine, both harnesses, and the car.
I will, eventually, be getting a hondata stage 2b, once I get my turbo.

basically, everything is apart. is there ANY way to wire the y8 harness into the 88 harness?
I was told to do the mpfi conversion first, using the old harness, get an obd0 to obd1 conversion harness, adapt the obd0 harness to the y8 (using the odb2 plug and obd0 wires).

the std hb is dpfi. d16y8 is mpfi.

the 88-91 Si dizzy bolts perfectly to the y8 head (but not the z6 head). In theory you could use a6 (88-91 Si) electronics w/ the d16y8 and then use the VAFC to activate and tune vtec.

so without rewiring the entire car, I essentially have to do the dx to zc wiring for the mpfi, and then use the 88-91 Si dizzy?

=( but the obd2 harness is so pretty with all of it's wires.

i believe that will work.. thats a big change in obd2 - 0 for the motor.. i would wait for some1 to agree with my statement.

but about the prettiness of the obd2 harness.. some time and electrical tape will make an obd0 look cherry.

hahaha
the obd0 harness looks so anemic though.. it's nothing compared to the obd2... anyway, thanks for the response, hopefully someone will agree and I'll be on my way.

ok...i agree, but using the a6 dist. on the y8( only 2 legs bolt up) head with the p28 ecu will make timing jump like crazy. because the position of teh .....lets just say the position is off. si dist. sits flat from top. y8,z6 sits tilted. you can us the si ecu and run wires for vtec to vafc. si ecu will run fine with a6 dizzy on y8. but you still have to mess with timing. but other then that....do dpfi to mpfi first...and use obd0 harness. thats my 2 cents

I thought that the a6 dizzy bolted up perfectly to the y8 head and only two bolts lined up on the z6.??

i dunno about anybody else, but MY si distributor bolts up perfectly to my y8 head. if timing is fucked up still, you can grind out the little holes on the distributor so that you can time it correctly. when you grind out the holes, just do the top and the back, you don't have to do the bottom. basically, instead of looking like "0", it will look like "U" after you grind out the hole. make sense? hope that helps...peace out.

It would suck a big nut to have to bring your OBD0 car to OBD2. You would basically have to requre the entire car might as well do what ghetto said.

To get the timing right with the Si dizzy on your head do this. The top bolt hole is the one you will grind. Now if the dizzy is in the cam, looking at the dizzy from the passanger side fender grind the right side of the hole out. I have returned about 4 dizzys to O'reilys with this done. They don't care or even notice.
