noob gonna pull the tranny!
well Ive done bits and pieces and helped friends on cars, I believe my input shaft bearing is going OUT, So I puleld the car up on ramps today and climbed under for a look, I believe I can have her out of there in no time, A few mounting bolts here and there looks like a shifter linkage (easy to remove) the exhaust seems to be clear,
so basically its just a few simple bolts and 2 axles? D16Y7 w/ S40 tranny anything you guys can gimme a heads up on will help Do the cv axles simply slide out? I've never done those before thanks a hell alot menawhile you are reading this IM under there removing bolts thx guys! |

Check out some of the how-to's here: http://www.c-speedracing.com/howto.php
The examples are B-series, but it's all pretty much the same. I just replaced my ISB a few months ago. I'll see if I can't find more info. |

Re: noob gonna pull the tranny!
honda is so easy to do, i wish my z was as easy to work on. just take the rear mount out, dizzy off, the the pass mount and let the engine sit on the damper, then the shifter linkage and all the bullshit. its simple, ive done so many clutch jobs on hondas its a 3 to 4 hour job depending on how you work, but your back will hurt after, that is guaranteed.

Re: noob gonna pull the tranny!
LOL... It takes me 3 or 4 hours just to get the tranny back on...
Worst part of the ------- job. Everything else is cake. |

3-4 hours to get it back on???????
Stoned???? |
Re: noob gonna pull the tranny!
The hardest part for me was getting the tranny back on, but take off the axle so it gives u more room. Also taking the whole shifter off the car made it easy for me when taking out the pin from the tranny. It's a easy job but take your time since your new to changing trannies.

Re: noob gonna pull the tranny!
i've alway just took off the whole hub, and set it on a jack stand out of the way. have one person with a screwdriver(flathead) pry on the cv joint on the tranny. and the the other pull on the axlve and it pops out pretty easy, but that ---- is the easy stuff. getting the tranny back on will be the hardest. have fun though

Re: noob gonna pull the tranny!
i always leave the bitch pin in there and just unbolt the linkage from the shifter

Stoned???? I use the good old "grab it with 2 hands through the engine bay, try to get it in place, and then hold it with one hand while I try to get a bolt or two threaded, all while my skinny arms tremble..." method. It sucks, I know. :-\ I don't know why so many people have such a problem with the shift linkage pin (a.k.a. bitch pin)... A 5/16" punch and hammer works beautifully. I used to pull the axles too but I don't anymore. Just take the fork looking thing off the end of your strut (bolt through back & bolt/nut on bottom) and then remove the cotter pin and castle nut from your ball joint underneath the hub. Pry the hub off the joint and it swings right out. Make sure you put plastic bags or something over the axle splines when you pull them from the tranny (use a screwdriver or prybar to "pop" them out of the tranny--don't pull on the axle itself). There is a little less space if you leave them on, but it's much quicker and easier if you leave them. |
