no spark

Default no spark

after an one hour run on the highway my car lost spark at the toll booth i let it sit for 1 minute and it started up but wouldnt go over 3000 rpm before all this happened the tach was going crazy( needle bouncing up & down) what could this be 88 civic single cam mpfi

^^ my tach seriously looks like this going down the road all connections are tight and there is no misfire

coil proberly. maby ignitor but when tht goes out it usully never sarts back up.

Sounds like you computer goes into some kind of limp mode my car did that once and the other time it was a cyl-pos wire that desoldered it self from the distributor. As far as the ignitor goes i thinks its just as expensive as a new distributor.

Definatly ignitor, mine was doing the same thing about 2 weeks ago, popped in a new one, and she was good to go.

ignitor looks like little chip type thing usually found INSIDE and adjacent to the coil. usually if the ignitor goes it will never start back up, i would try the coil first, its cheaper and also the coil is more likely to go out.

you might want to just carefully check the connections inside the dist. i once had a tiny wire that was loose and i ended up with a new coil,ignitor,cap and rotor before i found out a freaking wire was loose.
