Default new swap, run like ----

I put a ls/vtec in my 92 civic hatch vx. I put 450cc's with a resistor box and wired it up from the write up on h-t. chipped p28 with a new gsr basemap. and tried burning one that i know works on a buddies. The problem is I start it up and the idle jumps up and down at 1500 to 2000, and if i try to step on the gas is bogs and wants to die and then get a code 14 (eacv). I have pulled it cleaned it. I have replaced the TPS and MAP with the ones from my old motor. Cant set the timing with it jumping around but it is running pretty advanced and cannot adjust it back anymore. New plugs and wires. There is black smoke in the exhaust that tells me running rich, but i dont have my O2 hooked up so i cant use my a/f gauge. Any ideas i have been working on this for 2 days and done alot of searching but everything i try isnt working.

Did you scale the injectors back on the map?

are you sure the ecu is good? Block off the IACV and try running it. Also make sure the TPS is good.

I did scale it for the 450's, and the ecu is the one i used right before i swapped motors. I did change the TPS off the old motor so i know it is good.

took out the 450's and put the stock ones back in, and took out the resistor box. clipped the j1 jumper and it still runs the same. checked the coolant and it was real low and not circulating. i filled it a little at a time and it did run a litlle better, but still shitty.

have you done a compression test?

double check cam timing, inspect for anything weird

And then check your ECT sensor. I believe there's 3 of them. One for the fan, one for the pcm, and a one wire thing that is for the gauge. Make sure both 2 wire ECT sensors are connected, and if i'd test them too. You could also try shorting the ect by connecting the wires in the connector together (with it unplugged from the ect). The will fool the pcm into thinking that the engine is hot and pull fuel. Chances are, if the ect is bad and is stuck open (extremely cold; -44) then it will be dumping in more fuel than it should. As for the iacv code i'd just go over the wiring agan and make sure you don't have a bad iacv.

This might be stupid, but are you sure that you have all the sensors hooked up properly? I know that the evap purge sensor and the iacv have identical plugs, I had them backwards on my swap and the idle was all over the place.

haha that must have been great, purging at idle, and iacv engagement at cruise
