new car new problems

well i got a new hatch to use as a DD for a while, but last night it started to have some problems

its a 91 Si with a built (eagle rods, Je pistons, etc) B16 with a nitrous kit (i havent used it)

last night it ran great, drove it for about an hour and a half, and the only problem would be a low idle and sometimes dieing when comeing to a stop, not that big a deal... i figure can always raise the idle to temp fix that

but on my way home after about half an hour it started bogging anytime the gas was under 1/2 throttle, anything above and it would drive like normal... i was slowing to a stop to turn off towards my town and rev'd it to keep it from dieing and accidently hit 4K, came to a stop, took off, and the problem was gone. it drove just like before, no dead spots in the throttle

it has a cel which im going to check right now, but was wondering if maybe anyone had any ideas on why it would start and then stop that all of a sudden

any help is appriated, i dont really want ANOTHER car that i have to rip my hair out over

also something possibly worth mentioning, im getting really shitty gas mileage, last night i drove 100 miles and used half a tank according to the gas gauge

Re: new car new problems

throwing a code 10 if im reading it right.. i looked at the little LED on the ecu cover and it was one long blink, like a 5 second pause, then another, and on like that

i looked up codes and it says IAT, would that cause how it was running last night? even if it seems random?

Re: new car new problems

Ive heard the ecu use's Iat for timing advance and retard. So yeah it could cause the car to run poorly. Unplug it and see what how it runs.

Re: new car new problems

So finally got it working? Was the TPS enrich huhz. Anyways...try looking at the plug behind your ITM it should be the one in the back there. Not the mapsensor though...maybe you have the two sensors in the back switched up? Could be causing that problem.

Kinda sounds like an 02 sensor.

Re: new car new problems

i thought about O2 as well because of the gas mileage, but could that cause that random gutlessness as well?

Re: new car new problems

Your IAT should be located in the intake manifold.

Anubis_4_99 01-02-2007 12:24 PM

Re: new car new problems

i didnt know where on the intake manifold though which is what i was askin, sorry should have been more specific

i think i found it though, it appears to be on the front near the injector for cylinder 1

well i was on my way home from work last night and it happend again, about half a dozen times or so

i could get it to stop by coasting in nuetral for about a minute before trying to touch the gas again

it only seems to happen when i have an extended period of time of keeping the throttle in one position

Re: new car new problems

stock ECU, the guy who had it doesnt know crap about tuneing, the thing had a dozen JDM stickers with crap like "i'm so JDM i sleep on the right side of the bed"

exactly what my DD was doing its an 90 dx.. but it through a code 1 (o2 sensor) ran some injectors cleaner and found a vacuum leak no problems since...

Re: new car new problems

If the O2 sensor only takes readings at part throttle(which I'm fairly sure it does), could it be that when you goose it and get out of part throttle the ECU goes to look up tables, thus not using data from the O2 sensor, making the problem go away?? I could be way off, but its just a thought. ???

Re: new car new problems

Did you unscrew and take the iat out? Rene had the same code and the iat was toast.

Anubis_4_99 01-31-2007 03:12 PM

Re: new car new problems

yeah i know the IAT is probably bad, but i dont have one to replace it with.. i had the same code with my 89 hatch but it never effected driveability like this
