NEED VTEC!!! (update....got VTEC :)

well im going to the track wed with my beater Z6, but still doesnt switch over to VTEC yet (PS9/turboedit thing)...

what is the most ghetto/FREE way to switch over to VTEC...keep in mind i wont spend any money, and i have already spent too much time on this (10minutes).

the VTEC soliniod jsut needs 12v to switch lobes right?

oh and alst but not least...when is the swtich over on a D16Z6 ::)

Re:NEED VTEC!!!

the switch over is whenever you want it son. I'm not sure how many volts the fucker gets, but it's just positive voltage, run a wire with a switch until you can ghetto up something better.

Re:NEED VTEC!!!

well from what i have seen the most power is usually gained when putting VTEC about where it was stock (cuz Honda knows there ----)...but i have no idea where that is...

4.8 is a good enough guess for me.

here's an rpm activated switch for you to build:

my first mini-me setup i had my friend sitting shotgun holding two wires, one from the battery and the other to the vtec solenoid, when i hit 5 grand, he would touch the wires together ;)

OMG that's ghetto. :o

I would just run a switch into the cab. One wire goes to 12v+ and the other to the solenoid.

do you got a shift light on a tach couse that would be better then a toggle switch and your vtec should kick in about 5g.

nope not a ricer, nor would i accually spend money on this car...

so looks like a trip to radio shack for a switch...

i did ask for ghetto....but i think that is a little too ghetto :P besides i need to be able to do it myself at the track...other that that i might have tried it ;)

Wow, this keeps getting more and more ghetto funny. Maybe you could piss your pants, wrap an exposed 12v 8 gauge wire coming from the battery around your dick, hang the 12v vtec feed from your pair of top gun style sunglasses and touch your tongue to it when you hit 5k. :-X

Seriously, you can't just say "i've spent up to 10 minutes thinking of this one and bail". Good find kyle on the schematic, definately a keeper. Much easier then the hassle of ordering a Hobbs switch from Summit.

hook it up to your high beams ;). i tried that and it worked but i kept blowing bulbs. i ended up getting an rpm switch :P

Re:NEED VTEC!!!

my how ghettro, you could have always just thrown in a realy in the mix, ran it off the highbeams and had that .75 second delay of the relay kickin.

Re:NEED VTEC!!!

this is what i did when i couldn't ge tmy vtec to hook up right on my b16. just go to shucks and spend 2 dollars on a push button switch then run one wire from myou soloniod tot he switch then the other to the fuse box or sum power sorce i ran 12 volts i beleive.. than i just jerry rigged the switch on to my shifter. so i could push it with my thumb... lol

turbohf 05-10-2004 09:07 PM

Re:NEED VTEC!!!

i wont buy ---- from schucks im boycotting them...

went to radio shack, scored a nice square push button (non-momentary) switch for $2.49 (w/tax) plus some wire i had and some connectors....oh and lets not forget the electical tape (yeah i taped it ot the shifter :P).... works great, execpt that its completely random when VTEC kicks in cuz i have to hit the ---- manually...but it works...

that link to the switch is from my site, scarecrowx gave me that one, I have a bunch of other electronics schematics on that site.

dustin that electrical tape is going to suck balls when it gets hot, it will slip off and then you have a sticky shift knob. ever seen those turkey cooker things that have a little button that pops out when the turkey is ready? I taped one of those bad boys onto my shift knob so I could pretend I had NOS.

Kyle, pm me the link to your site, I wanna see what you have, that rocks that you're collecting that ----.

I actually started out my automotive hobby as wiring ---- up when I was 15.. then I got my first set of tools (still have like 25% of them that haven't been lost/stolen) and now I'm turning wrenches. It seems like all the bass crew has moved into the sport compact scene. Wierd.

Just hardwire it dustin.. your going to be at the track anyways. When is the car going to ever see below 4000rpms on the strip? I'd imagne your launch would be higher than that.

My vtec output was blown on my zdyne for awhile (when I accidently shorted the fucker out) and I just hardwired the vtec solinoid to the ignition. SOHC vtecs its hardly noticeable on the bottom end, unlike B-series.

good i thought it was just me....cuz i cant notice ----, the plan was to launch then hit the button then consintrate on not missing shifts ;)

my wanting to finish the TE 1-wire code has made me a ginniea pig for TE development...so i should be one of the first for 1-wire :P

There are some funny ass answers to this question,. but i was also questioned on it,... like how?,... if theres a plug that goes on the VTEC soleniod, where do you put the wire?,.. on the positive end?,... and with the RPM switch,.. do you just press it when you want it to cut on and off(like a light switch?),.. or do youi have to hold that bitch... kinda odd,.. and if you switch gears,.. will it cut off again?,.. is so seem like your better off with somone riding with you?,.. dont know,.. but thnx for the help!
will
