My car has PMS

Alright, this one seriously confuses me and I need a little insight from other people to help me figure it out. I swear to god once a month my 91 Civic (d15B2)just acts like total ---- and is a bitch to drive without it stalling on me.
It seems like everytime it's rainy/foggy/drizzly outside it will buck and bog out under high load, low throttle conditions. Once the rev's get passed about 4k it's fine. Also, I know when it's going to start acting up because when I go to start the engine, it makes a "coughing" sound like it's shooting air out the air filter ???
I've replaced the entire ignition system, and cleaned everything I can think of in the hopes to solve this. It's nearly impossible to drive when it does this to me. The engine's got alot of miles on it, so i wouldn't be surprized if it's on it's way out, but I would think it would do it all the time if it were too serious.
It's almost like a sensor is causing it, but I'm not getting any codes. Any of this sound like familliar symptoms to anyone? I appreciate the help.

fuel filter? Ever changed

Re:My car has PMS

Mmm, It's probabaly been changed before, but not by myself. I'll throw a new one in tomorrow, but wouldn't the stuttering/bogging happen all the time if that were the case?

I had a similar problem w/ a customers car. I changed the filter he had changed all the ignition parts also and car ran clean after. Even it'snot it there cheap and it proably needs to be done

Re:My car has PMS

True, I will definately replace it. It just sucks that I don't know when it will act up on me. Every time it's happened, it's been rainy outside. Could be as simple as a fuel filter who know's. I just can't wait for spring to come so I can swap engines.

Cap, rotor, and plug wires. I guarentee that is the problem. 100% or your money back.

haha, I'll go get a set of plug wires tomorrow. The cap, rotor and plugs are less than 3000 miles old so i don't think they need to be replaced yet. We'll see. It's got to be the ignition.

maybe the timming is a little off :-\
but that would probly cause your car to run crappy all the time

hummmm...

Re:My car has PMS

Yeah, I did check the timing and it's still dead on.

not a bad idea, being as you said during wet to moist conditions i would think electrical/ignition also

I would say if not the fuel filter, wires, dist. cap, and rotor...moisture + electricity = fucked in the ass ;)

Re:My car has PMS

Indeed ;D I'll see if I can pick these parts up today. I just want this thing to last me a few more months until springtime.

Re:My car has PMS

ill be pulling a d15b2 with 99k on it soon ;), but i dont think that will solve your problem. i agree with it being something electrical. my girlfriends friend's car used to stall out at weird random times, and it was because some wire somewhere became bare, and if it got wet it would stall out. it also would stall out if it was near cell phones. the signal did something and it would stall out on the highway at 60. keep us updated.

Re:My car has PMS

Thats some wierd stuff man. Must have sucked. Yeah I'll be dropping in a D15B7 mini-me and Si tranny swap I put together this spring. ;) I'd do it now but I really can't afford the downtime or the below freezing temperatures outside, so I got to make this engine last until then.
I did swap the plug wires this afternoon. That didn't take care of it, so I installed a new coil and it hasn't had any studdering problems yet. It may have solved it but inless it happenes again I won't know for sure.

Re:My car has PMS

You know you can check volatge of coils to check if there good

tranceminister 01-16-2005 06:27 PM

Re:My car has PMS

Hmmm, can I ask how? Is there a voltage meter or something you connet to a spark plug? The old one i replaced was origional (over 200K miles) and didn't look so healthy, so it's probably a good idea i replaced it anyway. but just for future reference I'd like to know how you can check a coil's voltage.
