Motor mount inserts
Are they worth the 35 bucks to have those "stiffer" insernt put into my stock crx si motor mounts? same thing with a short shifter and bushing for it....will it improve the shift feel alot?

Re:Motor mount inserts
I put those poly mount inserts in and it takes getting used to. It makes the car very buzzy and you can here all the rattles. Not to mention starting from a stop is a bit nerve racking if you are used to your plush launches. I took mine out before I installed my turbo but may get another set.

Re:Motor mount inserts
i've heard horror stories of those cheap-o short shifters where they break in half, lol
theres a dude on honda-tech that sells inserts for dirt cheap i'm picking up motor inserts, shifter bushing kit, and rear saw bar kit bushings all for $40 just search for motor mount inserts at honda-tech |
Re:Motor mount inserts
I hate short shifters. I owned one of those cheap ones back in the day put it in it after I did my first sohc vtec swap and I started missing grinding gears. Some people like them but I destroyed a good si trans in 3 months it usually takes me atleast 9 months to get 3rd to grind with my stock shifter ;)

Re:Motor mount inserts
3M Window Weld
15 bucks for a constant back massage |
Re:Motor mount inserts
I'll check out that window weld for you, I have some mounts I'm going to do up and then sell on here, keep an eye out for those.

Re:Motor mount inserts
i used some polyeurethane tubes from osh hardware for about $3-5. one of the best upgrades imo. engine is solid, no more wheel hop. i did all 5 mounts and no shaking like some people say. stealthmode used the same and he will testify it's benefit.

Re:Motor mount inserts
how hard is it to remove the mounts? any of them particulalry har dto get at?
|
Re:Motor mount inserts
I didn't use any inserts, just the window weld. It doesn't seeem to shake like everyone says. :-\
I'll be parting my car out soon which will include those mounts and a b&m short shifter with bushings. ;) |
Re:Motor mount inserts
i used some energy suspension inserts and the back ones didn't work. i had to cut the mount all up to get them in. now the back mount sqeaks alot? next time i put a motor in im just gonna fill them with window weld.

Re:Motor mount inserts
Yea when i replaced my Civics motor, i decided i might as well put in these motor mounts from energy suspension.
It made the car noise prone a lot! @ idle you can hear little squeaks in the plastic, and stuff, but the only good thing was the My driverside lower mount broke, and i put the insert on it, and it made it feel new!!! the lower mounts are really weak! If its a daily driver dont put them in, if not then go for it if you want? |
Re:Motor mount inserts
review on es inserts vs diy urethane filler. http://www.g2ic.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31035
basically inserts were too harsh for me. |
Re:Motor mount inserts
i'll use the es bushings for the hell of it, there cheap anyways and then use window weld on the rest
People told me not to get a 6 puck clutch for the street, and i'm doing just fine right now so mounts don't scare me one bit ;D |
Re:Motor mount inserts
you want scary, i have a cm stage 5 unsprung 4puck. not bad really, just lots of chatter unless you feather it.
|
Re:Motor mount inserts
there is a HMT thread around here someplace that illustrated all about the DIY motor mounts.. I think it was in FI - I'll try and search for it.
