Mini me timing..
ok just making sure i read helmes corectly.
For timing with my y8 head and a6 block, i simply put the cam gear at tdc and the crank pully at tdc, from there i install the timing belt. But what about the dizzy? How do i set the ignition timing for that?
Also, since i dont wanna create miltiple posts, how hard is it to install a cheap vtec controller (buddy club) Thank you.

Re: Mini me timing..
Get some freeware engine management to control vtec. Ignition timing is set with a timing light after you disable the computer with the service connector. There should be instructions for that in your helms manual too.

Re: Mini me timing..
Yep, cam gear should be parallel with a mark on the head I believe and the single mark that is alone on the crank should line up with a mark on the bottom cover. You will know when you start it if the cam timing is off for sure.

Re: Mini me timing..
but will the wire wheel take the mark off to? And i put the single dot aligned with the timing cover on my y8 just for a mock up, and the piston 1 and 4 was not all the way up. Is it suppose to be at the top, correct?

Re: Mini me timing..
Yep piston should be very very close to the top. When I was 16 I timed a D series by positioning the piston with my hand and eyeball and it ran :1 You're not going to bend valves. Spin it over by hand with a breaker bar or a 1/2 inch drive ratchet with the t-belt on. If it gets stuck you're hitting valves, if not, you're good. Start it up, if it sounds like crap, fix the timing, simple. I have started motors a tooth or two off and then just fixed them after it sounded like total crap.
