wow, how hard is it to install one of thses? im only asking cause ive never cracked open a Tranny.

 

easy for me, but I've been doing "D" trannys for 6-7 years now.

Just grab a Haynes/Helms manual, basically just removing the stock differential and installing the new one, theres a few things you have to measure and shim and ---- just like you would when installing a new diff.

I got the LSD off ebay, search OBX LSD and they all pop up for $350

Ive yet to find a thread with pics an info with someone installing one which will make me either install my own or pay the tranny shop the $150 or whatever to do it

Grab LSD, lay speedo ring gear in place, press on diff bearing with 20 yon press, flip LSD over, press on other bearing.

Open up tranny, remove gearsets, remove diff, swap ring gear, reinstall LSD, measure shim clearances, adjust as needed, reinstall gearsets, button up tranny case.

Now a easy hint.........compare the diffs, the distance between the outer bearing races to get a idea on about what shim you'll need........has to been done with ring gear out of the way.......pic is just to give a general idea........



Easy LSD (Kaaz) install with replacing ISB takes about 3-3.5 hours, the ones that are a PITA to shim (OBX!) tkae 5-5.5 hours.

 

Yeah but were not all "D Series Tranny Gurus", the only thing Ive ever dont to my tranny is replace the throwout bearing and adjust the clutch cable lol

Bauley rushed his, had to take it back apart 3-4 times as he wouldn't listen.

All the little mistakes I made in first 4-5 trannys, he did it all in ONE TRANNY!!!!!!!!
