ls/vtec question
my brother is currently thinking about doing an ls/vtec conversion. i had one main question. would this pass smog, and doing the conversion right(not hmt style...sorry), how much do you think it would cost?

Re:ls/vtec question
If he is planning to do it, make sure he does a lot of reading and make sure he understands EXACTLY what he is doing. Make sure he takes his time and dont rush anything. One small f' up and you're in shithill just like any of the motor works. In terms of smog... where are you from? If you are in cali, the answer is NO... If you are from the boondocks of Hickville, you might not even have to smog it so smogging might not be a problem.
Cost will depend on what you already have and what you dont have... are you starting from scratch with no parts? Or do you already have a running LS swap in a car and was thinking of just VTEC'ing it? Cost varies... Please be more specific. |
Re:ls/vtec question
thanks you. hes starting wiht a perfectly running ls motor...what do you think the estimate will be around; using a gsr head, and the best items?

Re:ls/vtec question
Ok, please tell me why it would not pass smog? It is merely a GSR...1.8 vtec. Just dump bottle of alcohol in tank and get an adj. FPR and turn down the fuel pressure.

Re:ls/vtec question
does he already have the head? if not.
complete top end (head, i.m., t.b., injectors, fuel rail, complete head, valve cover0 = 400-600 golden eagle ls/vtec kit (oil lines, dowel pins, head gasket, tap, etc.) = 240 p72 ecu = 80-150 around anywhere up to 1k bucks if you do all the work your self. |
Re:ls/vtec question
anyone know where I can find a GSR head for 400-600$? complete?

Re:ls/vtec question
You can tune an LS VTEC to pass smog, use a type R map. Ontario has a comperable test to cali, if your tuned properly there shouldn't be any problems. I passed a Turbo B16 through safety and smog tests.
