that's what I was thinking too. I was just going to put it on for customer instructions, and then I just never got a chance to take it off. 8) (I hate when that happens) lol

Overall, the front heim joint/spacers/washers/bolts joint was a little tight to put together, but now that they are on the car they are so solid. It's amazing. I wish I had that fast motor to put in there to go test drive them. ;)

Re: L-con Traction bar install writeup **17 pics**

Jason, you have to plug them into your laptop.lol

The way it was explained to me by the manufactuer is you twist the radius rods until you feel just a slight tension, then tighten your retaining nuts. Do a burnout, and if you only lay rubber on the right, tighten the left one just a little (or vise versa) You should be able to get it to where both tires lay rubber (from what I understood of it.)

The bars are designed to eliminate wheel hop, and in turn give you better traction. In no way am I saying these are any kind of LSD, but that's just how it was explained to me.

i still dont get how these things dont cause binding during times of big suspension travel ( I worry because my car is so damn low). Any negative effects on handling?

MikeJ-2009 03-10-2005 12:45 AM

Re: L-con Traction bar install writeup **17 pics**

I'm not the suspension genious to explain it, but when I was at L-con Engineering I was let in on the way they determine if/when there is bind in the suspension. I promise you there is none. The suspension has two possible directions it moves in normal driving situations. As long as your geometery is correct, you won't have any bind.

And that explanation is the exact reason why I don't build traction bars. lol. Louie at L-con showed me how he determines this, but I'm not here to try and explain it. I'm not even sure if he wants that information out.

Where's bambooseven when you need him? ???

Re: L-con Traction bar install writeup **17 pics**

Theres a little more to then just bolting these bars and going.. I'd definatly align the car after you get these installed, you can adjust the preload on the front end, (adjusting cross caster) to get it dialed in nice. I align my car everytime I even take these bars out of mine.

Nice write up Steve.

I like the new gloves :) Eventually Stealth I'll be able to pick a set up. Interested in that Piston/rod combo you've got too.

MikeJ-2009 03-13-2005 02:12 PM

Re: L-con Traction bar install writeup **17 pics**

I decided to axe the piston/rod combo for now. I'd really like to find a faster source for those things before I get in trouble with that.
How bout a trade traction bar for your LM1. ;)

bambooseven 03-14-2005 04:14 AM

Re: L-con Traction bar install writeup **17 pics**

the "preload" isn't really the importnt part. the bars are created to prevent deflection and they do, well.

as for why they don't cause bindin, think of it as another leg on your lower wishbone, as long as he pivot point is in the same plane as the lower control arm you will not experience any binding. I can explain it further if anybody wants to know. or maybe I'll have louie come in here and give a traction kit 101 class.

Steve, i was wondering if you could take more of a front on under view of just one side, i want to see how ligned up the suspension pivot points are, seems like a good kit to me if it does!

We can take some of mine. His car is totally gutted, so the front end is like 8 inches higher than stock.

that wont matter, i'm talking about the frame mounting points, i have heard that this kit doesnt go inline (we have posted a nice long thread on making these before). it will bind the suspension geometry if its not in a strait line, thats why i need a couple good pictures.. or else i'm going to have to order a different one.

I'm confused as to what kind of pictures you want. ???

I can take em, but I'm not sure what you're asking.

evosol 03-16-2005 06:28 PM

Re: L-con Traction bar install writeup **17 pics**

by now everyone has heard or read on how/why/where to mount the radius rods on the traction bar... but also another thing to remember is that the radius rods, including the hiem joints, are anywhere from 18-22" in total length. That means that the radius rod is the longest part of the front suspension, which means even at full compression or droop, the angle is gonna be less extreme and circumfrence thinggy is gonna be greater, giving more buffer room for any "binding."

i dunno if thats totally accurate but thats how i visualized it when i built mine... ;D

P.S. very nice instructions Stealth! like the others my fav was the 'install fast motor.'

can this be done without sacrificing structural integrity?? I want to hide my I/C, I dont like to cut my bumper grills (ill cut them but not all the way)

Re: L-con Traction bar install writeup **17 pics**

This bar doesn't interfere with the bumper grills at all. I can't see how this bar would sacrifice structural integrity, it's adding to it. -Steve

like.. set the camera on the ground, directly infront of where one the the traction bars go and make it so i can see all the bolt points of the lower suspension to see if its inline.

Re: L-con Traction bar install writeup **17 pics**

You are not being very clear.

Draw a diagram of where, "directly infront of where one the the traction bars go"

The way I read your question, the last photo and the one that says, "place fast motor...", should give you the right view.

Re: L-con Traction bar install writeup **17 pics**

Josh,
It is perfect. Louie wouldn't let it out of the sop if it wasn't I promise. I watched the R&D for this setup myself ad I can garauntee you here is no binding whatsoever.
Steve.
if you really want to prove it all, jack the car up i the front and take the wheels off. take vid or pics of the suspension cycling From full droop to all the way compressed (upper arm touching the fender) this bar will alow for more of a range of movement then you will EVER need. Will not bind under ay circumstances.

as far as I know there as never been a question about this kit in particular being out of gometry. If there is a post you can link me to that is talking about this please let me know.

I was told to post this for you josh!

where did you "hear" that my kit dosent work? i wouldnt have engineering in my name if i didnt have engineering skills. this kit is absolutely perfect in all aspects of engineering and geometry. over 100 kits strong, and tested on over 600whp.
