What happens is over time the wax plug gets messed up and it sticks open or closed.. usually open unfortunatly and it plays hell with the idle... especially warm idle since the ECU is then in closed loop operation.

Some FIV's are on the bottom/side of the TB.. some are on the intake manifold itself. It just depends on the year/make of the Honda.

As you can see above I keep 2-3 of these on hand at all times... kinda like igniters and OBD0 distribs :P
I believe my FIV is bad, Its been kicking my *** for about 3 months now.. but that seems to be the cause now that I can track the flow of air through the FIV by plugging the hole in the throttle body.

I'm thinking about permenatly closing mine... what the bad about that?

This thread is dead.

But is it like the idle is loping or the car is threatening to stall?

i know this thread is very old but did anyone check the map sensor because it sounded like your guy's problem. have you guys tried disconnecting the map sensor for awhile to see if it goes back to normal idle?

---- you stupid ***.

Read how to make your first post.

MAP sensor isn't going to lope your idle, it's going to make the car run like *** at part throttle, or barely idle at all.
