Default I NEED HELP WITH D16Z6

ok i have a couple of questions....
what i have now... d15b7...blown by water damage from CAI
what i am rebuilding.. D16z6

I bought a 1995 D16z6 engine....
p28 ECU
new bearings.. rings... gaskets...the works.......

1. Do i Absolutely have to buy new head bolts.. no local auto store has them and i dont feel like buying new ones..
The engine was perfectly fine when i bought it.. 80,000 miles. I measured them all and they all seemed the same length?

2. Can i directly plug in the P28.. the p06 wiring harness
are there any plugs i wont use on the engine side.

3. From my understanding i will have to run wires for a vtec power wire...vtec oil pressure sensor... and a ground. I bought from summit an RPM activated switch. My question is, Is the Vtec oil pressure sensor like a remote lead to the ecu?. Does the ecu need to be able to read the pressure? Do i need that with a RPM switch, or can i just hook up the power and the ground and be done with it.. The switch is gonna be set at 4800 RPM. and no im not running the wire to the ecu. I already have a oil pressure guage in the car.

4. Are there any other wiring issues that i have to worry about that i need to run to ecu or anything of that sort?

5. When lubing the bearings.. can you over lube them under lube them?

6. Does anyone have an article on HOW TO time.
I have the basic knowlege.. just have never done it. Starting with lining up the lines on the cam gear to putting the belt on and adjusting the timing from there can anyone do a write up on how to time the car, from a complete rebuild?

7. Will starting and stopping the car mess up the seating of the piston rings from me adjusting the timing.

8. Are there any tips on installing the pistons back into the cylinders after the rings are on it.. i do have a tool for it.. but not exactly sure how to use it properly.. i am still learning.

This is all i can think of..

My block is being honed as we speak. All the parts are waiting to be installed. This is my first rebuild and am hoping everything goes smoothly. If anyone has any tips or tricks please share as they will be gladly appriciated.
Thanks Brian

Just get the measured and compare to the service manual, you did get a service manual right?

not 100% sure, but vtec wires need to be added

Sorry to tell you that you wasted your money on the RPM switch. The p28 ecu is a vtec ecu and you dont need anything else to turn vtec on and off.

4. Are there any other wiring issues that i have to worry about that i need to run to ecu or anything of that sort?
i am un sure

5. When lubing the bearings.. can you over lube them under lube them?
just make sure they are covered, but i've never seen any1 put lube on the non friction side. (meaning only the side where something is spinning in them)

6. Does anyone have an article on HOW TO time.

dont have one here, sorry

dont know

8. Are there any tips on installing the pistons back into the cylinders after the rings are on it.. i do have a tool for it.. but not exactly sure how to use it properly.. i am still learning.
you'll have to bump them in with the wood end of a hammer or something soft

have you ever thought about buying a manual for your specific car yeah i agree if u were gonna buy that rpm activator switch. you shouldnt have bought that p28. but i would recommend using that p28. its only three wires.

Well that's no way to thank him for helping you.

If you do use the P28 and you don't hook the wires up for VTEC, it will just throw codes and send you in limp mode. It won't be reading any oil pressure without that wire. You can still activate the VTEC with your RPM switch, but I can't see why you would want to do that? You have an ECU that is fully capable of running VTEC without any "hacks" and you don't want to use it?

To answer some of your other questions:

1. No, you don't have to buy new head bolts, but it is highly recommended. If you are running boost, I would say yes, it is 100% necessary.

2. Yes, it plugs right in.

3. Yes, the ECU still needs to read oil pressure or it will send you in limp mode.

4. Not that I can think of....

5. I can't see how overlubing them can hurt them. Underlubing them could do some damage. Just make sure they are well covered and they don't get scratched during instalation.

6. I'm not surew what you are asking for here. Ignition timing or cam timing?

7. I would imagine since the rings need to seat in place and if you stop the motor before it gets warmed up repeeatedly to check timing it will make for a rough break-in. I would let it warm up 100% before you shut it down to do adjustments, but that's just me.

8. Use alot of lube. Don't force it. Take your time, just like a virgin.

Also make sure u plastigauge ALL your bearings to check the clearances. I didn't do this on one my first motors, and it lasted me 2 weeks and threw a rod. Just figured i'd throw that in there Everybody also has different opinions for breakin in rings too, so don't take just one person's word on it...ask around. I'd also talk to your machinist and see what he says.
