how to make vtec hit hard
 

like the topic says. how would i do this on my sohc vtec motor? i cant feel it kick in. i have tried different rpm activation points, even as low as 3400 rpm on my vafc, and still cant feel ----. the vtec solenoid is still good i think. i hooked up a test light to the solenoid, and when it reached the set rpm, the light turned on. i have tried adding/subtracting fuel to see if that would help, and got no results. you guys got any suggestions?

Just a fact of life on the SOHC. Only the intake valves switch to a different profile.

Id just leave it stock, but... if you wanna feel it hit, move it up to like 6000-6500, then you'll feel the low speed lobes thoroughly wheeze out. Making the vtec seem to hit hard. ;)

for some reason, on sohc vtec's, you cant really feel vtec kick in! thats just from my experience. now with a dohc, thats a different story... buy a cam for your car and i'm sure you will feel vtec kick...

First thing you need to do is set your vtec crossover point back to the stock setting and leave it there. Then everytime you drive somewhere come pick me up first and when vtec kicks in I will kick you in the back so you know it's working.

Seriously though why does it matter if you can "feel it kick in" or not? Disconnect vtec and drive your car around the block. Hook vtec back up and drive your car around the block again. You should be able to notice a small difference at higher rpms if it's hooked up right. It's a dinky 1.6L sohc commuter car motor what did you expect? I wasn't really impressed when I first drove my sohc vtec honda either, but I can feel and hear something at higher rpms... I think.

actually, i dont really care if i can feel the vtec. i just wanna feel it work for testing purposes and know that it is working and that i set it up correctly. after i KNOW it works, i plan on setting it around 4800 rpm... thats where i am told is the best activation point on sohc's. also, there is no "stock setting" on my car because its in a crx using a pm6 and a vafc. thanks for the suggestions guys.

I have mine set at 5gs.I cant feel it hit hard dut I shure can tell when it kicks in.Its mostly engine noise more than annything >:(
I wish it was that sweet turbo whining sound I was hearing.

I can feel 5 pounds of boost on my sohc. I think my vtec is screwed up. In the past I could hear it switch over. I cant right now. I tried raising rpm but nothing. I think I need to do the multimeter test.
