There is a cheap fix that works damn good. I tried it and WOW my pos ebay tranny that had ------- water in it now shifts like brand spankin new at any rpm. I got this tip from a veteran of the drag racing world. It involves a ton of work but cost next to nothing (your time thats about it) Here goes...
Completely dissasemble your tranny. Purchase new syncro rings and just the rings. You do not need syncros or hubs. Get yourself a small triangle shaped file and have a seat. Start to gently file the rounded edge "tips" of the syncros and hubs. Sure theres a shitload of work going over every tooth but basicaly you reshape them just a tad. Nothing too extreme just to bring back a somewhat point to the grooves. Re-assemble and fill her up with GM syncromesh. Do NOT get the friction modified ----. Trust me on this it works!!

^^^ wow, i wanna try that synchro fixing thingy. but the only problem is i never took the gear box off before and i dont know how the synchros look like, any pix guys? i have a y8 tranny that grinds in 2nd really bad, cant get it into gear so its 1st to 3rd!
