Honda civic EX

my question is my honda D16Z6 engine and is also automatic so will i get more power as an automatic or convert it to standard?? Also what is the difference between a cable and hydro tranny, and which is better?? If i swap an engine in which engine would be better B16A1 or A2 whats the difference?? Thanks

Re:Honda civic EX

going to 5 speed will give u more power at the wheels and obiously let u decied when to shift give u a better peforming car.the the b16A2 is newer and thats about it,a hydo tranny will mostly be found in92 and up civics and the cable tranny was mostly used in 91 and older civics.the diff. is a hydro trannies fork that pushes in the throw out bearing is operated my hydrolic pressure and a cable is just that operated by a cable the biggest diff is u will have more trouble finding a cable b series tranny than u will hydo, and the hydro is esier to push in the clutch pedal

um ok
you don't add any horsepower from changing trannys. the gears might be different. also at WOT the auto tranny should shift at redline lol

you dont add anny H.P with a 5 speed tranny but you do get more power to the wheels wiht the 5 speed. You loose some H.P with the torque converter in an automatic.

thats what i ment, less to spin thats why i sed at the wheels the motor has less to spin :P

yeah in the honda world Autos are slower then the 5 speeds...but in most performance cars....say 98-02 trans am/camaros , the auto tranny are faster..i guess because less chance of error from driver..plus those things blast out of the hole when they have a stall!

Re:Honda civic EX

the reson most higher powered v8 cars are auto is because just that stall...something we dont have to really dont have to worry about in vtec engines is the cam making good power from 1000-8000 rpms but with like alot of v8 the cam wont make any power till say 2500 then it will be real nasty in the top end thats why u need stall torque converters they dont even try to start moving the car till the engine is making power....try taking off at 2500 rmps all the time in a big car like that and see how long ur clutch will last

Re:Honda civic EX

i have a 2200rpm stall coverter on my chevelle. and it does make power before 2200rpms.

autos are for drag racing. you will never see a good dragster with a manual tranny unless its an import and they have no choice. no one can shift as fast as a turbo hyrolic 400 with a shift kit. its impossbile :)

the clutches in these trannies are made to be run hard. unlike OEM honda clutches

i'd like to see two dyno sheets of someone losing hp with an automatic tranny. i seriously doubt it.

I was just wondering, ... how the hell does the blow off valve work with an automatic????? :-\ Can you hear it like a standard car when shifting??

Re:Honda civic EX

you guys are right in a way. a stock honda civic manual will smoke an auto because of of gears and launch.

Stock honda auto trannys over heat very easy when u push big power thru them. Build them up and you will do great. SCC is using a LS auto tranny on their stroker b16 holley drag car. to quote them....

"You can't beat the accuracy and quickness of an automatic slush box" and "the idea is never lift the pedal, spooled from green to the end".
