High flow cat converts are all the same?

I'm in the market for a new catalytic converter and i talked to this muffler dude and he said that Magnaflow or any brand that advertises "High flow" have the same flow rates as any other universal aftermarket Cat. All universal cats will flow better than oem Is this true?

He also said that OEM cats last about 10 years while all other aftermarket cats are aound 2 years. He sounds pretty knowledgable to me.

So in the end if the first statement is true, then i should just get a regular universal cat?

But if anybody in Southern California has a CX/VX cat/manifold that i can borrow or buy to pass smog i'd be happy to buy them lunch or something!

i had mine replaced for 60 bucks at the muffler shop, use it inline with a obdII cx cat and it nets ZERO emission, the smog guy said" I couldn`t belive how clean ur car runs" lol

Re: High flow cat converts are all the same?

screw emissions i want as much power as i can get....but i have to take my car to a Test Only smog center so i need to be emissions legal. Right now i have a straight through exhaust with no cat. I tried puting on my old CX manifold but the cat on that thing is all shot up and rattling and i failed emissions so now i need to find a Cat to pass.

I was thinking if i can find someone with a CX cat then i can use that and go back to my old ways or

if i can't find an OEM cat then i'll just have an aftermarket one welded on but i want as little restriction as possible

yah but thats a bitch cause i gotta pay someone to weld it on in the first place then if i wanna test pipe then i gotta pay him to reweld everything back to normal.....unless i get flanges but then thats gunna cost more money and so on..........

why dont u just flange ur exhaust and buy a cat to bolt up, then when your done take it off and bolt up straight pipe..?? i did that on a car before, works pretty good.
