Default Help with motor Identification

Okay so I pulled the D16Z6 from my 93 Civic EX and I bought another D16Z6. I was wondering why the VTEC Solenoids do not match at all and the markings on the front of the motor are completley different. Both blocks say D16Z6 on them but nothing else looks the same.

Were there different varitions of the motor? Underneath the valve cover cast into the head on mine it has a 6 in 2 spots, the other one has a 5 at opposite corners. The one with the 5 also says EX in the rocker assembly.

does the rocker arm assembly look the same on both? the second motor might have a vtec-e head from a d15z1. or a y8 head.
