Default Heat Not Blowing! ITS COLD! Not Going Where It Supposed To

I bought a 90 Civic dx hatch, basically the heater "works" but doesnt "work"

First off it only works on setting OFF and setting 4, either off or full blast.

Next it sounds like ALL of the air is being released somewhere behind the glovebox, when you move the recirculation or outside air **** across it changes the pitch of the sound of air but still does nothing

If you put it on the windshield, you get a descent ammount of air, enough to heat up the windshield anyways, put it on the center so it all comes out at your face and you get ALMOST NO air coming out, probably couldnt move a piece of paper.
Put it on the floor and NOTHING

Any suggestions?

If you stick your hand behind the glovebox, kinda squish it between the back and whatever is behind it and you can feel a strong breeze.

Need some help on how to get this car HOT

Thanks guys

Blown resistance - must not be expensive -

For the other stuff, can't help, you'll have to dismantle and look at it, try to find a shop manual to help you do the job faster without breaking any plastic

Damn winter

look under the dash and/or take the glove off and check the duct connector that connects to the heater assembly.

Sounds like the little vent that directs air to your heater core fell off/ broke. Yea to get to that the dash will need to come out, look at a service manual to make sure you use a slide or "blend door" for the heater control.

bump for what Im looking for

I was told the glove box only had to come out though

Any info on the resistance of only having no heat or full heat? does a part has to be interchanged?

get some duct tape and take out your glove box. it sound sounds like the tube behind your glove box in your dash broke or fell off. im guessing that it fell off and you can only feel the pressure on level 4 because it's pushing out so much air anyway it seems like its coming through the vent. just realine the tube and duct tape it back on. or go get your self on of those cigarette plug in heaters

Well I popped the glove box off and went at it

First off, there was a nice 2X3" hole that was open, that was were most of the air was coming out of, it was were the right side of the glove box would be, pointing right at it, had 2 screw holes on each side of the hole, assuming something was once there.... i coverred it in duct tape

There was also a good bit of air leaking from the "joints" on the massive tube that spans from the blower motor to the center of the car, on both sides, so I duct taped those connections

I still have ZERO control of where the air comes out of, no matter what, there seems to be a good ammount of air going to the windshield and window side heaters

If there is a way to permantently set it to one point then so be it. But Id love to have this working

Thanks

I fiddled and cleaned a lot of stuff, taped up all the connections so tehre wasnt any loss of air and I somehow manged to get 2 setting to work

When its on the windshield setting, i get a strong windshield blow, no breeze from anywhere else

And when its on the face setting (furthest left) it comes out about 60% feet, 40% windshield

I also figured out that the big piece thats missing, the 2x3 hole I was talking about is supposed to be some sort of "resisitor box" and screws on and a harness that I found tucked away plugs into it and I will get my heat settings back

I think im happy with how Ive got it working

Would be nice to be able to have it come out of the center vents though, dont know why it doesnt

The dx hatches use cables to change your vent settings. Not like crx's where it's vacuum controlled. More than likely the clip that holds the cable in place either broke off or popped out, and that's probably why you only get either windshield or the windshield/feet split. My 89's order is defrost, defrost/feet, feet, top vents/feet, and top vents. There will be 2 clips on the cable...one behind the heater controls, and 1 at the other end that controls the airflow.

if you can get your center vent out you can reach in there and grab the directional door and adjust it by hand
its a bitch but it works
