H22a replacing pistons question

I cracked the ring lands on my stock h22 with boost. i bought JE 9:1 pistons... im told AFTER i bought them that i HAVE to sleve it or else it wont last but 1000 miles. why is this? or are they wrong?

Re:H22a replacing pistons question

Your stock sleeves are homo and made out of Smagma which won't bond to the piston correctly. You heard right. :-\

Re:H22a replacing pistons question

I'm no H series expert so my advice isn't worth ----, but I would suggest the factory OEM parts if you're not going to sleeve it. :-\

Re:H22a replacing pistons question

what year h22? open deck? closed deck?? power numbers??

if you want to keep the boost, don't bother pulling the motor apart just to replace it with OEM. ---- THAT!!! wait and save your money. get it re-sleeved, and build that bottom end right. do that and you can make some serious reliable power. if you put oem stuff back in and keep boosting your just going to run into the same problem you have right now. and building it w/o sleeving it is just like puting oem stuff back in. re-sleeve that thing man!!!

Re:H22a replacing pistons question

I already had theo motor tore apart when i got the pistons... ANYWAY.... i decided to sleve it with darton sleves and get soem good rods and use the JE pistons i got... i got to wait 2 months to have the cash.. but i guess its worth it.

oh its worth it alright! It's going to feel like a long wai though ::), trust me... Good luck, oh and what kind of numbers were you putting down on 9psi?

Re:H22a replacing pistons question

i never raced it with 9psi because i didnt have it fully running good and tuned. my best time was 14.3 with a 50 shot.
