Re: GRINDin 3rd what do i replace
there's a brass blocking ring. They wear down, there's little teeth on the inside that grab the gear. If it's bad the gear can get fucked too, and there's dog teeth on the side that get all chewed too.

grinding your already fucked
Grinding trans at wot at high rpm is common and regardless of what people say its not that bad. I have raced with trans like that for seasons along with many people I build cars for. Used trans high rpm missed gears ---- happens

3rd generally isn't a rear mount problem. My rear mount was toast in my DC and replacing the rear mount allowed me to go into 2nd finally. Every other gear was fine, I was sure my 2nd gear syncro was gone, but after the insert was put in, no grind at all.

IMO the forward shifts ,3-5, in most rod shifted honda's are longer throws than 2-4, and timing the clutch is different resulting in grinding. not saying thats the reason your trans is making maragaritas, but could possibly be why third gear tends to be the most worn gear in older transmissions
