Default Good thread on how to remove camshafts?

Hey i am trying to remove my head off the b16 and i am kinda stuck. I have been using this website.

http://www.lightningmotorsports.com/...aheadremII.htm

It has nice pics but not really in write up on what i am doing. I have pretty much removed everything and i am trying to figure out how to get the rocker arms off. I have not removed the rocker shaft bolt. Do i really have to remove the cam gears off the cams? I do not have the special key.

if u just wanna remove the head u dont have to remove the rockers or the cam gears from the shafts

pull the rails, the caps, the cams/gears, and voila
access to the bolts

make sure you torque everything to the proper specs when putting it back together.

the cam gears dont need to come off.
if you wanted to take them off, there should be a hole in the caps over the cams. stick a 5mm punch in there and then there is a hole in the cam...just put the punch in that hole. it will hold it and then you can take the cam gear off.

Also make sure you put the cam caps back on in the right spots, and that they're torqued in the proper sequence. Failure to torque them down in their sequence could starve your cams of oil when you go to start it.

If you want to remove the rockers you have to remove both oil control orifices on the head, then thread a bolt into the shafts that go through the rockers and pull them out.

yeah a dead blow mallet works great for removing the cam caps. I got this one from sears that you can change the heads out on for harder or softer. And be organized, put everything in order. What comes out, goes back in the same way.
