gear oil question?

Ok i have a 91 civic 4 dr w/ d15b anyway the bolt to fill up my tranny is completely stripped. My question is..... Is it possible to fill my tranny with gear oil thru the hole where my speed cable goes into??? I know its a dumb question but this bolt is fucked up and wont come off

Re: gear oil question?

u can but u need to know how much to put in.
thats why u do it through the bolt so when it over flows out thats enough oil.

ya you can.. but Id get some big ass vise grips on that bolt and get it off there. Most b-series takes around 2.2quarts I think? Im sure mista bone knows the exact amount.

Re: gear oil question?

needs 1.8 quarts on a fluid change, dump in the whole 2 quarts it will be fine...........

DO NOT try filling thru the speedo cable opening, not gonna work. Don;t even bother trying to pull the spreedo drive assembly, not made to come out like a VSS unit.

You have 2 options, both a PITA in their own way.

First and SLOWEST way, fill via the vent hose, yep 2 quarts of oil thru that TINY LITTLE HOSE, have fun!!!!!!!!!!

Second and easiest. Put tranny in 5th gear or reverse, remove the starter. You will then see a 19mm head plug for the shift arm. There will be a spring behind it. Once the spring is out of the way, easy spot to dump in your fluid, reverse, done. The plug is to be torque to 40 ft/lbs, but has no real force on it, so take it easy!!!!!!

inside looking out...........

but his VSS is behind the dash, would get kinda messy :)

BTW that was a spur of the moment brain fart.......walked out to the tranny room.......
