Frustrated with pos civic

Aight guys heres the deal I bought a 1996 civic off a user on honda-tech awhile back, more or less a impulse buy. The motor ran mint and the car sat for about 7 months because It needed a turbo. The motor is a ls/vtec, he claimed the motor is sleeved, fully built the whole nine yards. Looking at the motor youd believe him, every part on the motor is new and of the besr quality. Heres the problem, I installed the turbo and it yesterday and it started up with no issue. I took the car for one spin up too 6k at 6lbs of boost no problem and parked the car. The following day I tryed starting the car and it fired up but died shortly after. Now the car wont start, it doesnt even fire. The motor turns over, I have fuel and spark. Compression tests were 150 psi across the board, again I dont know the comp on the pistons so this could be bad?. The car has a hondata s300 with rc 750cc injectors. I have no clue as to what it could be. Any ideas?

low compression prolly cause its a low compression build?

check all the wiring/ground/starter cables/battery then next step would be to check all fuses.. and last but not least could be a problem with the hondata unit..

cant you plug that ---- up into a laptop and see if its working properly..

pictures?

i would never pay more than 1k for someone elses project.. lol

Re: Frustrated with pos civic

btw its prolly flooded.. id go with that..

remove one of the plugs connect it to the plug wire and have someone crank see if it sparks
smell the plug if it smells like alot of gas ur prolly flooded.. if they are bad obvviously change them.. remove all the plugs and turn the car over for a bit then leave it a little like 15 minutes.. then come back and reinstall the plugs and it should fire up.. thats if its flooded..

yeah I tried all of that, I just dont understand how one minute it can be running and the next not. I realize I am a complete dumbass for buying the car. I saw value in it because the car has a five lug swap and tien coilovers and clean paint etc. I payed 7k for the car. I have no clue....im about to tear the motor out and run a stock b16

have you tried checking for spark? pull the plugs and see what they tell you.

he paid 7k for a unfinished car that he didnt even see running and driving right.. and now 7 months later hes fucked :1

wow.. just wow..

go over what you checked and how you checked it...
something as simple as a tstat housing ground can keep a car from starting..
just because the ground is on there tightly doesnt mean its working fine.. i had a tstat ground on tight as ----.. took it off cleaned it and the car started up and purred..

i suggested alot of ---- and you just said you tried all that rofl

so how do you know the s300 board is functioning properly..
how do you know your plugs are good?
how do you know its not flooded?
how do you know its getting spark
how do you know its getting fuel..

I'm not too sure here why you paid 7k for a car you don't seem too enthused about.

Re: Frustrated with pos civic

Did you tune it before this 6psi run? Because odds are if you didn't, it went poof.

Re: Frustrated with pos civic

its something simple try new plugs like everyone is saying, make sure the grounds are all conected. If it was running good and then it wasnt, could be your disitributor, thats what my issue was, let the car sit for a month, took it for a ride, ran good, parked it wouldnt start again... ended up being the dizzy... so you could check that as well.. ;)

Birdley42008 04-21-2008 01:29 PM

Re: Frustrated with pos civic

New plugs, check injector wires especially if your using individual resistors, check ignition coil spring by taking off distributor cap, re check all grounds, and get a tune, or have a pro look at it? If its something small and dumb, then the pro/tuner will most likely do it for next to nothing.

Re: Frustrated with pos civic

still nothing with the car....I reloaded a couple maps on the s300 and im still gettin nuttin. The car has 150psi on all cylinders which is low but the motor should still run. Im gunna pull the pan later this week and see what the ---- I bought. The car is worth what I paid for it, clean 96 ek with 90k 5 lug swap with Itr wheels. The motor has all high end parts on it....probably stolen. I am just at a complete loss as to how that can happen? I was getting some white smoke before it stalled out. I thought I might have blown some ring lands but I wouldnt be regestering even compression would I? I tested the compression on a cold motor open header with the throttle plate open. Car should start with no header on it correct?

U= fail. Where are you located, maybe some one is local to you.

Re: Frustrated with pos civic

Well I have built a couple of motors of motors in my day including swap but this work isnt mine. The car is wired in with a mustang throttle body and a 3 bar map sensor. My point is even if the ringlands are blown 150 psi should still fire up. What about alternator? Would the car start with a bad alternater?

rickytangimports 04-24-2008 11:24 AM

Re: Frustrated with pos civic

Check the main relay, its a common problem with civics, causing intermittent starting problems although nothing else seems to be wrong.

rickytangimports 04-24-2008 11:26 AM

Re: Frustrated with pos civic

and the car will still start up with a bad alternator so long as the battery is fine, just you won't be able to drive far as the battery will die :P
