Default ford V8's for mazda miata swap.

Are the ford EFI V8's 5.o and 4.6L V8's the same? I mean are the engine mount points and etc the same. I know one is a 302 and the other a 289 or 281, just curious because Im trying to use a 4.6L out of a thunderbird LX in my miata V8 swap. thanks

old school 289/302 or 5.0 EFI is ont of the most compact V8's engines in american cars.

I know, but with a conversion kit it drops right into a miata. Are the V8's from a thunderbird and a mustang the same?

Again nope, teh kit to make yours a "monster" is for a 302, the 4.6 will absolutly not fit a miata....

The early 90s T-bird 5.0 motors are the same internally as the Mustang ones. I have both a 4.6 and a 5.0. The 5.0 is smaller by a good bit. But with the 4.6, the only one with a chance to fit would be the SOHC one. The DOHC is much wider yet. True monster miatas are 5.0s. IF a 4.6 would fit, the late model explorer motor would be cool. It is all aluminum and shares the good heads and cams with the 99-04 mustangs. You can get these motors new for like 1500 bucks.
