flywheel bolt stuck, need suggestions

well i figured out why im haveing problems with my ecu powering on... my ------- wireing harness somehow got caught up on the ------- axle!!! the numbnuts who had the car before me didnt think it was nessacary to put a little bolt back in to hold the lume in place ::) so now after i pull the motor i need to fix the 10+ wires that got fucked over... i'll post a pic of the carnage when i come back from the garage next time

onto my question

im almost ready to pull the motor.. i dont wanna ---- with takeing the tranny out :l can i undo the motor mounts and just tip it out without unbolting the tranny and be good to go?

Re: wireing problems and motor pull question

way easier if its all together, youre just creating more of a hassle

i think u need to pull the tranny away from the block, not the other way arround, so it will be faster if you take the whole thing out and get at the bolts when they are out, the tranny is only like 100 lbs or so its not a big deal

ive never had a cherry picker...out the bottom with a jack as one unit is the method of choice for me

Me too. Just undo the front crossmember and radius rods if it's an ED chassis like mine, then jack up both sides of the car with the front suspension disassembled. Motor drops right out ;)

Re: wireing problems and motor pull question

i just pulled it straight up the top away from the tranny..

anyone know how to get a flywheel bolt out that's stripped? :l it's one ------- bolt and its holding everything in place

i bought a bolt out set from sears, and all that good stuff, but cant get it to hold.. if i cant find a way to get it out i'll just have the machine shop take it out tomorrow

the machine shop is gonna weld on a nut to the bolt and get it out for me for free so its cool

i honestly have no ------- clue how i stripped it though.. i think the head was a little weak, he was tappin it with a hammer and chisel and it looked like it was pretty soft metal.. i dunno though
