First engine rebuild-- few questions
I'm putting in a set of used 10:1 srp pistons next weekend, with the engine in the car. First question is: Do I need to take the stock piston/rod assemblies to a machine shop to have it taken apart and have the stock rods put on the srp's? The manual says I need to, but sometimes they feed you bs, so i dunno. I have a torque wrench, 3 stone hone, ring tool, ring compressor, and am borrowing a timing light-- is there any other specialized tools I will need? Care to give me any advice to a first timer? I just want my car to run good again. I just deturbo'd it until I build a new kit, and there was probably a half quart of oil in my charge pipes from the fucked rings in cylinder 2.

If you are reusing the OEM rods, then yes you will need to swing by a machine shop to have them pressed.
If you ask, alot of places will just press them while you wait, it only takes them a few minutes. |

Rod bearings are for ricers. Just use two pieces of bologna, works every time.

Should I replace the rod bearings while they're out? and how much do I need to worry about clearances-- can I just reasonably assume they will be ok?
