finished b18b swap but dies when throttle is applied

b18b 94 civic

i replaced the throttle body from a crv so i know i have a good tps and good map sensor

but my idle is about 1500, i hear a strange whistling noise, and when i give it gas, it automatically dies. its also running rich,

i used the injectors from the b18b but i had to splice them. is it possible the injector wires are backwards? can this happen

timing seems fine. i havent checked the codes yet, but i think it could be from igniter or coil?

thoughts?

have you messed with the timing at all?

Re: finished b18b swap but dies when throttle is applied

yes i moved it back in forth as far as what it would allow but the dist never has been removed so i dont see how it could be off?

or could it be. i was having a hard time getting to the little pin thingie to check the codes never done it on this civic

Re: finished b18b swap but dies when throttle is applied

so i go to check the codes, im getting a solid check engine light

i unplug the map sensor and it goes all over the place, so i know the map is good, strange that it affects the ecu even though its in limp mode?

also i unplug the tcs and nothing happens, still die when i give it gas

oh its running SUPER rich i got a headache from gas fumes.

any ideas??

The solid cel means you have no codes in obd1/2 that are being thrown. I'll bet you money that if you swap the tps plug and the map sensor plug it'll run just fine. ;)

doesnt make sense because the check engine light is still on after i reset and remove the pin???

the tps and map are new i have a whole throttle body off of a crv that was running i just spent 100 bucks on

im going to test the volts tomorrow this ---- is alway a pita

Nope...I'm telling ya...switch the plugs between the TPS sensor and MAP sensor. This is a common one to get mixed up, both plugs are identical and both run with the same 5v values. Even with them switched around you'll never get a cel code for 'em. The solid cel when you jump the connector is supposed to be that way...it means you have no codes stored on the ecu. Once you pull the jumper the cel should go off.

Was the car up and running before you swapped the TB? Or has it never been running before?

Dry turned bearing FTW!

Re: finished b18b swap but dies when throttle is applied

ok tranny fluid wasnt the problem all though it was comlpetley dry (found out the asshat who sold me the tranny didnt say anything about 3rd gear scrape, bleh.)

the grinding noise is actually i believe a HUGE vacuum leak. idle is rough, and when i apply throttle it goes away. ive looked under the car everywhere and i cant seem to trace it, i want to go put on like some ear muffs with a tube and a directional pointer to pinpoint the vacuum leak becuase im lost.

get starter fluid spray it along the lines to find the leak ;)

saved my ass a couple times.. tried and true 8)

Re: finished b18b swap but dies when throttle is applied

found it

seems when i swapped over to the b20 throttle body there is a whole in the bottom that was leaking mad air, i totally ghetto rigged a vaccum hose with some electrical tape rapped around and shoved it up in the whole so its nice and tight then ran it into the intake, it made the noise go away, brought down the idle, and it is idling at about 800 but still a bit rough.

good enough for now.
