Default excess engine heat

I have a 88 crx with a ZC swap. I am having problems when it is hot out with my car missing above 3000 it feels like it shuts off. I think i am having a dramatic amount of heat in the engine bay. is there anyway to cool this down? Would a old clogged catalitic converter do this? alos my car runs at normal operating temp the entire time. Just when i open the hood you can tell it is too hot...it is strange seems like the exhuast manifold is WAY to hot.

what does your water temp gauge say? did you bleed the cooling system? how hot is hot when you say it is hot outside?

if it's cool out, and you can easily go through the rpm's, I don't know if the cat would be the issue.. can't say much else, I have no idea..

thanks for the advice the timing is right on the money, How can i tell if my 02 sensor is good? it doesnt seem to be running lean or rich. i checked radiator fluid it all came within spec (i work for a lab that analyzes stuff like that). i really think it is the exhuast manifold that is doing it. Would it be worth my time to wrap it in that thermal tape ---- people do sometime with tubos and whatnot?
