EX & DX Trannys???

I'm having some problems with my tranny and have an opportunity to get a cheap 95 DX tranny to replace my 95 EX tranny (until I get the EX fixed).

Does anyone know what the real differences will be? Someone mentioned different ratios, but I'm not 100% sure what the means exactly.

Re:EX & DX Trannys???

the ex has shorter gear ratios. i run a dx tranny and i wish i had a ex tranny, how does that sound?

Re:EX & DX Trannys???

So performance-wise, it would suck.

If I did have a DX though, it would still work, I'd just have to shift sooner?

shift later
its not that big a diff in trannies unless u want every 10th of a second in the quarter

If the dx trans is cheap and you need one asap it will work but in the long run you will want the ex

Re:EX & DX Trannys???

bunk that. With boost I loved my dx tranny. I never had an ex tranny on it, but with the dx I was about 80mph at 4k rpm. How much higher do you want to rev at cruising speeds? I understand the shorter gear thingy, but for the money, I'll get a dx over and over again. ;)

What DX tranny do you have? My ex tranny had me in the 3-4k range at 80 if I'm not mistaken. The only D tranny I remember being like you are saying is the EF Si trans.

Re:EX & DX Trannys???

you can gain almost a half a second from switching from a DX to an EX trans

Do you offer a money back gaurantee with that? ;D The ex will probably get you faster track times, but it's on the freeway that really counts. ;)

lol, yup when I build a car MPG comes first, having a fast car comes second. A DX trans is such a huge disadvantage in every way possible

Re:EX & DX Trannys???

dx gears are not so much longer than the ex, its the final drive that makes the difference. so wap the final drive (if thats possible) i dont know ---- about tranny internals hah

So since I ran a 13.84 with a dx tranny, I could technically say that I really ran a 13.34? Would you buy that?

(I'm trying to find a reason why I'm not wrong now) 8)

What about the costs, buddy? ;D

Since you didn't run a 13.3, you didn't run a 13.3 :P

If you would have upgraded your trans you would have ran a faster time. I'll bet your first born on that one.

hahaha, that's like people at the track, dude I got 11's in the 1/8th mile. So that means if I double and devide it by 3, than times it by 1.8 (you know 1/8th mile you see) i get my quarter mile time... which is like 13.2!!!

YES!!!

I just recently switched to an EX tranny and it feels a bit quicker around town. The old tranny is on stand by when this one implodes.

Thanks for the input guys... I'm actually buying an 89 hatch this weekend instead of the DX tranny.

I'll just get my EX fixed :o
