The Endless Dilemna D16A1 Mounts

Re:The Endless Dilemna D16A1 Mounts
If it's a D16A1 from a 86-89 Teg(DOHC), It will not bolt into an EF chassis. The JDM ZC DOHC blacktop will bolt in to an EF, but the browntop JDM ZC DOHC won't. The earler ZC's use a front mount on the drivers side whgere the EF ZC DOHC's use a side mount like the newer SOHC D-series cars.Any help to you, or are you more confused?

Re:The Endless Dilemna D16A1 Mounts
i believe the drivers side mount bracket that goes through the timing cover needs to be egged out, i have mocked it up once, but then discovered a hole in the block of the d16 so i scrapped the whole idea. But yeah i think the holes are spaced further apart...but that's just from memory, also, the transmission bolt pattern is different between the A1 and other d's, but i have heard that the block and tranny can be modified to fit together, i have heard you need to drill and tap a new starter upper hole and egg out a lower hole on the tranny that isn't threaded. there was a writeup about it on redpepperracing.com.

Endless dilemna? I thought this was pretty much common knowledge?
D16a1 88-89 has different motor mount, off the front of the block, and also the d16a1 will not bolt to any L3 tranny. The bell housing is different. So even if you figured out how to mount it in a crx/civic you'd have to figure out a way to get the engine and tranny to bolt together.
As hotrex said.. the a1's are pretty much ----, not even worth the time anyways. Most of the hp difference between the 2g blacktop ZC and the a1 is the cams, intake manifold design and ecu.

D16a1's are still ---- reguardless. High hp with headwork? ya those a1's are rockets all right. Maybe with some nice head work you could lay down a blistering 125whp.
Point being, A1's are a waste of time, they are perfect for 1g CRX's, but 4g's and anything newer its not worth it.
Oh and if you want to know how hard it is to bolt up right..
2 bolts are off and its shaped different.
Just fab yourself up a nice motor mount like this one, LOL
and hey there ya go..
