Electrical confusion..... HELP
 

I relocated my battery into the trunk to allow room for my charge pipes. When I try to start my car, I am blow a fuse in the distribution block. The weird thing is the SS oil line coming from the block to my oil pressure sending unit (mounted on the firewall) gets hot when I try to start the car. I am not very good when it comes to electrical ----, What would cause this to happen?? bad ground?? Would not grounding the sending unit cause this to heat up the SS line?? I dunno, any ideas appreciated.

bad grounding wouldn't cause him to blow a fuse would it?
It sounds to me like your power wire is touching the metal chasis somewhere. i would check the entire power wire that runs to the trunk to make sure theres no open wires.

haha... i think neither... i think you need a higher amperage fuse on the starter... that uses the most power of anything in ur car... when i first relocated my battery, i was blowing fuses left and right, so I just put some foil around the fuse going to the starter cus I was even blowing 80amp fuses... now I have removed the distribution block, and went down and got a bigg as "butt" connector from pepboys and bridged the starter/main pwr & Battery... I placed a 100 amp fuse right next to the battery... the car starts & runs much better now...

it could with that much power being drawn. if he turns it over and hte ground is moving around it could blow the fuse.

Heres the deal. Electricty likes to take the shortest and easiest route. If you ground the battery to the chassie right off the battery, thats bad. It has to push a lot more current to get it to where it needs to go. You might want to run a ground right back to where the last ground went. Don't put foil in there. It doesn't always work for everyone. Ground anything you can think of. The less the electrons have to work to get to their destination the better. They are lazy and need to be spoon fed. Put them on the biggest, fattest bus to when they need to go. Then they will be happy. They don't melt ---- like fuses or wires.

that wouldnt really change anything, the electricity would still have to travel back along the ground wire to the battery. You were supposed to use a NON FUSED distribution block. go buy 1, $5 at a stereo shop.

Well I was able to solve the problem with the SS line heating up, it was because the oil pressure sending unit was not grounded. But now, I am still running into the problem of blowing fuses, not as much now, but when starting the car first thing in the morning, takes a few cranks to startup. If the car doesnt startup, the fuse blows. I have now upgraded to 80amp fuses, if those blow, I will go with the suggestion of putting the fuse right beside the battery. Thanks for the responses.

Dude, you are not supposed to have FUSES to begin with for the starter. They blow because they're not meant to be there. There wasn't one there before was there? So...take them out. My battery is in the trunk, and I didnt even use a dist. block, just connect the positive from the battery directly to the starter.

And connect the ground anywhere on the chassis. Works just fine. No matter what the ground still travels the same distance no matter what.

I'd like to know how you grounded that? I think I need to ground mine.. can you get pics? or hell even draw it in MS Paint? ;) thx
