ELECTRICAL BULLSHIT!!!!!

this is a long post, but please read and help me if you can. any suggestions would be welcome right now - im completely ------- lost, and need help.

ok, i dont even know where to start. today has been wierd, really wierd. when driving my car this morning, my vafc stopped working. i had it on rpm monitoring, and all of a sudden rpms became 0. i thought...ok, maybe a loose rpm wire connection. then, about 30 sec later... the whole thing turned off, and my car was basically dead after that. i tried turning the car off then on to see if the afc would work...nope. i checked the afc connections to the ecu and made sure that they were secure. after that, i tried to see if the afc would turn on... it did. ok, so i started my car like normal. everything is all good on the way back home, until i get a check engine light. ok, i check the code and its code 9 - cyl 1 pos. i cleared the code each time, but it kept coming back as soon as i started the car. i decided it was time for a lunch break. after coming back outside to work on my car, just for grins i tried starting it. no code...? ok, it fixed itself? well, i drove to school no problem. but on the way back when i was almost home, all kinds of ---- happened. first, my radio started to cut out. i thought it was just the station, so i changed it. same thing on every station. then, my headlights got dim, my blinkers started blinking FAST(strobe light fast), my oil pressure light turned on then off immediately once, and my alternator light did the same thing. my afc was doing the same ---- as this morning too. my car started acting like it wanted to die right as i was parking it, but i put it out of its misery and turned it off myself. ----!!!!!!! i don't know what to do anymore. please post any ideas you may have.

when's the last time you worked on the car and what type of work? check for crushed/pinched wires maybe.

Check your ground wires. A loose ground can cause all of that and more. There are several grounds on your car, from the battery to the block, from the block to the frame, from the block to the ECU. They all have to be TIGHT and CLEAN.

Re:ELECTRICAL BULLSHIT!!!!!

first of all, i love hmt, you guys are the ----. sorry onyx bout the sorta double post, but the other one was before everything went psycho-er. last time i worked on the car was when i changed out the starter like two days ago. i think the alternator is still good(brand new from autozone), ill pull it and have it tested. i pulled out the starter just for the hell of it, and took it to autozone for a cash refund(long story but they didn't wanna give me another one). so im gonna get another starter from pep boys or checkers.

i am going to completely re-ground my car. im going to change the one from the battery to tranny, head to body, but am kind of confused about the thermostat grounds. i checked the thermostat ground and saw that there are four wires wrapped in a loom going to it. i dunno about the other three, but i know the brown one w/ black stripe is ground to the ecu. im not sure if it is cut anywhere in between the ecu and the thermostat ground point. would it be possible to just cut the brown/black ground (pin a16 on pm6 ecu)wire near the ecu, and then just extend the wire from there through the firewall and ground that to the body? i was thinking of stripping a small amount of paint on the body of the engine bay, and then drilling a screw into that area to make a solid ground connection. afterwords, i was gonna crimp the ecu ground wire onto one of those connectors that look like --0 and screw it into the area i prepped. is this a good idea? any other ideas for making sure my grounds are PERFECT? lemme know guys. once again, thank you to everybody for your help... you don't know how much help you guys have been.

Here's an easier way to check the ecu ground...

move carpet back so u have access to the ecu.]

turn key to ON, did it blink once? if yes then u have ground.

oh, that's what that blink is, I thought my car was going balls.

Re:ELECTRICAL BULLSHIT!!!!!

ya that single first blink is the ecu's auto check.
