Default EGT guage

I was thinking about removing my af guage and put an egt instead, because a couple of people told me its better, and since my turbo timer has a af voltage, and ratio on it, there are no lost... but what does an egt guage benefits, what does knowing your exhaust gas temp help? does it help in tuning? whats the advantage in tuning with egt over A/F guage?

An egt guage is more helpful for tuning ignition timing than it is air/fuel ratio. The way blundar explained it in the TE class was that you should really only use the egt once you have your air/fuel ratio tuned. Once you have your air/fuel down with a wideband, you use the egt to tune the ignition. When the egt guage starts to get real high, you start retarding the timing. Something of that nature.

All in all the egt tells you 80% about ignition and 20% air/fuel.
