Default Eggshape - How much is OK?

OK, this is my second engine build ever, so sorry for some n00bish questions. I just need some opinion if its worth a shot, or if its totally wasted. I was originally planning to go with some 75.5 vitaras, along with the custom I-beam rods from fjt. After a couple of phonecalls today I found that I actually can buy like 5 sets vitara's for the labour with the block. So I took a closer look at the block I'm going to use, and hoping to use standard bore vitaras. It had a bad rod knock, and the #1 piston has hit the head, and made som small scarring in the cylinder wall. I can barely feel it with my fingernail, though, so I think it should be ok(?) after a hone. I measured the cylinders, and the side-to-side diameter is about 2.956", and front-to-back diameter is mostly 2.957". I read that the vitaras measures about 2.951", so the clearance should be OK. Its the upper 1-1.5" of the cylinder I'm kinda worried about. Front-to-back diameter measures 2.959" in #3 cylinder, and 2.958" in another. I thought the most wear should be about in the middle of the cylinder? Or is this normal?

The engine is going into a car that will be driven on the circuit track in the weekends, so I'm not too worried if it doesnt make 200,000 miles. Just thought I'd ask before I'm wasting my time on something thats never going to work...

thanks

Went out to take pictures and took a closer look at the other cylinders, and discovered deep scratches all the way down in one of the others So I'll just go and look for another block, or use the one that sits in my car at the moment if it survives till winter arrives...

Would still like to know how much eggshape is "acceptable" for a vitara build, though. So if someone feels like it, you're welcome to chime in

shut the ---- up....he wants to use vitaras, why would he sleeve a block when the whole point of vitaras is to be dirt cheap
this site is not for you

any way, before i used to be worried about egg-shapedness now i just dont care/ rings will seat and will run great, hone it to get scraches out, but if any part of the cylinder is .008 over the diameter of the piston i would'nt use it
my buddy's ls was about .007 over the piston diameter at the top( about 2 thou out of round) he used parts from my pick n pull engine, rods, pistons, rings , engine had 230,000 miles and the nig nog didnt even hone it and beats the ---- out of it at the track, only problem is he broke a break line

deap scars that wont hone out/ egg shapedness that is just too much needs an nice over bore, which is why i had daddy bore my d16

Just bore the block over. I mean at 100k on most honda blocks there is scarring in the walls and no way would I run them stock bore unless it was I dont give a ---- it just needs to drive car.

What are they quoting you?

Oh, yah, posting the excellent booty shots to accompany your question is about the BEST way I have ever seen a n00b get solid advice. Your name may be similar to cornfuzed's, but you are obviously of superior intellect and therefore welcome on my HMT anytime.
