Re: Ebay Clutches?

Ive got a used stage 3 F1 clutch in my car now... I would just recommend getting the clutch kit, and reuse your flywheel... Heavier flywheel=more load, better spool. XTD clutches Ive heard decent things about as well. But I have NO complaints about my F1, and Im putting down about 217 whp.

Re: Ebay Clutches?

thank you solid reply, especially the flywheel comment gets me thinking, so your saying dont wry about a flywheel kit just a clutch kit no flywheel nice, but arnt there pros to a lighter flywheel more accel while not on boost cuz im doing a small turbo setup so i should spool up quick anyway...im just playin devils advocate here not saying your wrong just want more input

Re: Ebay Clutches?

I have a xtd 6-puck clutch, and 11 lbs. flywheel for 2.5 yrs with no issues. I have d16z6 with 10 psig supercharger.
But if you have good tires for gip, mine RT-615 for auto-x, I go through about 2 cv-axles per side per year. Still alot easier to replace cv-axles than pulling trannies.

Re: Ebay Clutches?

I had an xtd stage 4 unsprung 6 puck and it slipped bad under boost on an ls with a holset 12ish pounds.

When I put the b16 in the same car with the same turbo kit/clutch/flywheel/trans/everything it never slipped, but the car had noticable less power. Fucker was downright slow.

It was awkward grabby letting it out, but the peddle feel was soft just like stock so I find it hard to believe the pressure plate was 200% stronger than stock or whatever they claim. I read all about broken cables with strong pressure plates and my stock 180k+ mile stocker handled it just fine. Hell chris (the mod) talks about breaking the clutch pedal mount with strong clutches. And I could let my woman drive this thing with no complaints about her leg getting at all tired.

I've read rumors they are just stock pp repainted with a china disc but my pp was chromed out bling yo, so I wouldn't go as far as saying it was stock repainted but it was bad. It just couldn't handle the torque I guess. No matter how many people I read with 'good luck' with them I will never waste my money or labor on another egay special clutch.

Re: Ebay Clutches?

My xtd clutch has very stiff pressure plate. Took me a few weeks to get use to the stiffer pedal feel. Drove down to Denver (3.5hr. drive) and back and lift calf was very sore. I had replace the clutch master cylinder.

I guess it's a gamble you'll get anything better than stock then?

Is it worth it? My personal opinion is no.

LSD or nothing at all!!!
LSD> everything

Re: Ebay Clutches?

I broke a couple pedal assembly's with act extreme plates its not that uncommon with clutches that have real bite. The cdm/ebay clutches are cdm stock rated pressure plates and a poorly designed disc

act/lsd/clutchmasters are the companies to run not cdm junk

i have a ching chang meow xtd stage 3 clutch kit with stock flywheel and it held up on a boosted b20 at 13 psi launching in second off the rev limiter, now have the same clutch on a high c/r ls with a 80 shot and launch it the same way.. never had a problem and had it around 2-3 years.

I own a Clutchnet stage 2 kit and love it. Never have issues with it on my LS at 10lbs. T3/T4 setup. I would recommend one for street/strip

Ive used XTD clutch's twice the first one fell apart on my accord NA. :S The secound one I got free for a tune and it held up under Boost and hard driving for a couple years. I have a thrid new in the box for my crx but I may sell it and grab one from lsd. their so cheap and obviously better quality.

What cdm part isnt besides from the looks of the iat temp thread the intercoolers

My view is a clutch is really one of the most import things on a car. Any of my cars/friends cars/builds I like to think I can drive them has hard has I want and never have a clutch failure.

I like their cast turbo manifolds for Hondas. Beware some of the units for other makes, though, as I have heard of runner misalignment on one of the designs, I forget which.

Ya those are solid too but they have alot of loose casting in them nothing 20 minutes with a dremel cant clear up but for 100 bucks you cant ask for much more

Re: Ebay Clutches?

Haha, Hitchhikkr ports all the CDM castings for the local crew. I don't know where he gets the patience.

zero937 04-14-2009 01:10 AM

i wouldn't get that many parts from ebay

jeremiah963 04-14-2009 10:13 AM

imo ebay clutches are junk!!!! if your gona spend the 150 bucks on a ebay clutch save the money and buy an exedy for 200-250 its worth it... not enless you want to spend the money and time putting it in to tear it back apart in 3 months! theres only so much i would buy from ebay

crxb18t 04-14-2009 12:35 PM

My buddy has a xtd stage 2 or 3 cant remember clutch kit with light flywheel in a h22 prelude and it holds great! its the second one he has bought and both worked great. he replaced the first one during motor swap from f22 to h22. The flywheel made a BIG difference in revs and overall power.

turboknightmare 04-15-2009 02:47 AM

keep the heavy FW, will help with heavy launch especially with slicks...

turbominime4door 04-16-2009 12:39 PM

i had a xtd on my f22 turbo setup and it held fine

I have the stage 3 kevlar kevlar sprung hub in my buddies 334hp del sol. And its been running for 2yr's under 1 bar.

twack 04-22-2009 01:42 AM

i dont know if it makes a difference but in the dsm world some people use xtd with success.

MoFasterthenUr's 04-22-2009 03:22 AM

ACT all day.
I also heard that ebay stuff is just painted. My dad has a shop. this kid came in with the Ebay kit. he showed me were he got it on ebay and the color looked different. its like a different shade in person. it just looks cheaper. it was suppose to be a stage 2. we put it in his accord. it felt like a stocker to me when I took it for a test drive. thats probly why they feel the same at the foot. cuz there not real.

sometimes you can find used ACT clutches and plates for a good price. try to find a cheap used ACT clutch and plate, then get them rebuilt. BAM, now you got a new ACT clutch and plate.

iownahatchback 04-22-2009 03:46 AM

sweat i was in need of this info aswell

MoFasterthenUr's 04-22-2009 04:03 AM

I've had the same act clutch and plate in 2 different cars in the past 2 years, In a couple of months I'll be taking them out again to get them rebuilt. I think for both the clutch and plate it will cost me around $90 or so. but good deal.

slowredsol 05-26-2009 07:08 PM

i have always heard bad thinga about those clutches, but who am i?

JRmotorsport 05-27-2009 09:59 AM
