ebay clutches????

anyone ever use an ebay clutch? i have heard somewhere that they are just fancy painted stock pressure plates. has anyone here actually used one? i dont care if your sister's boyfriend's cousin knew a guy that he met through OCZC had one. i want real experiences. i will probably just go with LSD stuff, but i am on a tight budget for a few months and im tired of paying insurance on a car im not driving

I used the XTD "stage 3" sprung 6 puck and it worked great for a few years. It was used for ~200 whp though.

Gripforce clutches are really good clutch for under 400whp
I installed one i my old setup, when I was low powered 326whp and 214ft lbs . then my last clutch was a with their 6 puck sprung disc with ACT extreme pressure plate. their flywheel is also good. the brand is F1

Re: ebay clutches????

My d16z6 w/ sc14 supercharger has been sportin' a "stage 3" 6-puck ceramic XTR clutch with a chromemoly 11.0 lbf flywheel for two and half years.
Only complaint is my clutch acts like a on/off switch so I have to rely on tire slippage. But I use RT-615 tires in the summer. With very little tire slippage and almost no clutch slippage I end up replacing the passanger cv-axle 3 times year and the driver side once a year. Luckly these cv-axles have a liftime warrenty.
I'm still saving up for some DSS axles or I might try the ebay axles listed to handle 400hp.

I rocked the xtd 6 puck sprung on my 200whp dd for over 2 years. Not a problem untill the end of its life it got a little limp. But I now own a Full face dragger clutch from lsd and all I have to say is. WOW!!! Very nice clutch. My brotherinlaw is running a act 2600 on his gsx and all I have to say is its a slip monster. He wont buy another act ever again.

A guy I know has been through a lot of those 2600's on his dsm. Just went cintered iron not sure why he doesn't want to go twin. I had an act full face with the xtreme plate and it lasted for 4 days of boost...went with a CC 6 puck after that.

I put an xtd 'stage 4' 6 puck unsprung on my b18 with a holset and 12 lbs. It didn't take long at all to start slipping horribly. I won't buy another one personally.

Re: ebay clutches????

gripforce stage 2 and 12lb flywheel combo on my stock h22 ......it slips when i slam gears or drop the clutch. Normal driving doesn't make it stink

It could also be because of my master cylinder going bad/leaking, but the only time it spins is in the rain. has smooth engagement tho

act is just as bad... we had this convo on our local forum, Jmills will say the same, but i've had 2 act clutch setups literally fall apart. 1 in a 198 whp NA car and one in a 266 whp turbo car. ive used the F1 clutches with "some" success, but not for long.

LSD clutches FTW. i beat the ---- out of my last one on 266 whp and it still holds up now after 2 years of pure abuse. the current owner is still beating the piss out of it. think i paid 388 shipped for the clutch/flywheel combo from them.

I have used them with no complanits but then again all my cars are slow :'(

Re: ebay clutches????

Torque/loads kills clutches. Thats why the awd dsm kill the good old 400hp act 2600 clutch.

Re: ebay clutches????

I've broken every clutch I've used , except for the current one Competition twin disc.
1st, stock
2nd, exedy stage 2
3rd, ACT stage 3 extreme
4th clutch masters fx500
5th reuse the extreme pressure plate with the fx500 disc.

then I finally gave and fork out the big bucks for the twin plate.
chatter is annoying as ----, and the engagement is neck snapping but it never slipped. all that money wasted up top on failed clutches.

arent twin disks like $2k+?

Plus, I have never seen one for a D series.

Re: ebay clutches????

I had an XTD stage 2 clutch. It held for 6 months and less than 10k miles. It started slipping like a ----------er after that.

This was on a stock accord.

Re: ebay clutches????

I guess its hit and miss. I put a XTD 6fuck sprung clutch in my friends 97 lude and its pushing 8lbs and holding no problem. 2 years at that.

rudebwoy 11-10-2008 07:16 PM

Re: ebay clutches????

I think competition clutch is a great clutch, whether twing or single. and they are the lowest price for reputable clutches, my friend uses the stage 4. buying multiple cheap clutches that fail adds up.

Re: ebay clutches????

yea imma run an el cheapo ebay setup to start with my h2b, then im going straight for the comp twin disk myself.

I got the xtd 6 puck clutch. It slipped horribly on 170whp. Switched to a lsd pp. Worked much better then.

i guess xtd's suck as much as std's, and someone said that the F1's werent bad. this is good info

Don't use a f1.
2 of my friends used a XTD but neither was boosted so I don't know what to tell you.
I have a brand new XTD 6 puck sprung for a d series. I got it with a car I bought and I don't know if I want to put it in my daily. :-\

The XTD stage 3 with light flywheel is not that bad for an ebay special. But like I said I have never has any thing thats really fast.

he's talkin about my eg singlecam. i broke it in the RIGHT way and never had a problem with it. Though it wasnt boosted i sprayed the ---- out of it and it never seemed to slip once. liek everyone says its hit or miss. i would rock one again tho. O0

Re: ebay clutches????

I purchased an XTD Stage 3 six puck off Ebay and stuck it in my Accord. Been using it now for 7k miles. It's my daily driver and it's not bad. Has a little butterfly chirp in 1st but everyone said that was normal. I'm running 15lbs on it and it doesn't slip AT ALL.

I guess everyone has a unique experience with it. I'm also using a stock flywheel that has been shaved quite a bit. It's all up to you man. It's cheap, but you get what you pay for.

My friend would have taken the record, but the turbo was MAX out. Lsd clutch I think it is rated at 280something ft. It does not slip a bit :6.

Re: ebay clutches????

um, i beleive it was 3xx something.

the guy that has that record now holds the record for the worlds highest d series period.

just a FYI tho. he broke 11 d series trans in 1 year. welded the difs and kept going. Its not really going to be a streetable car anymore.
