DX axles on Si Transmission
I just got an Si tranny for my 88 hatch.
I have a JDM 95 SOHC Vtec ZC, basically a D16z6 stamped ZC, and have been using the stock 5 speed DX tranny. I got a 90 Si tranny, clutch and flywheel, so all those parts are covered, but the guy I bought it from told me I had to change the axles, probably a hybrid axle that would fit the Si tranny and my DX wheel hubs, Is this true or will stock Dx work? Also I have some brand new axles from a 95 ex coupe. Will these work? Thanks |
Re:DX axles on Si Transmission
i believe the dx works, its the bastard HF that don;t

Re:DX axles on Si Transmission
yes they will be fine...
and YES the HF axles WILL fit into a Si and DX tranny... |
Re:DX axles on Si Transmission
oops! :-X thats right, its the DX Si and b series axles that dont fit in the HF hubs, .. see why its a bastard.

Re:DX axles on Si Transmission
Thanks, I have everything to do this now. The Si tranny is better for performance right? I hope to feel some difference. ;D

Re:DX axles on Si Transmission
yes the si tranny has shorter gears giving it quicker acceleration. but lower fuel economy because you run 3k rpm at 60mph instead of lie 2k w/ a dx / hf tranny.

The DX and SI gears are EXACT it is the final drive thats different.. sowwy but fact. |
Re:DX axles on Si Transmission
Wait, I have an hf. So I could swap a dx or si tranny as long as I keep my hf axles?
Davcivic, will you be selling your dx tranny? |
Re:DX axles on Si Transmission
yep...

Re:DX axles on Si Transmission
yup shadow rex is correct, ideally you want a dx tranny especially for freeway driving... the best tranny of all is the zc because it has the shortest gears and a longer final drive... ideal for the zippiest honda tranny youd want zc gears and si final drive.. for daily driving id just go with the dx because in a 1/4 mile race most likely u wony be hitting 5th gear anyways
