Default drop tranny or whole powerhouse?

time to replace the clutch in the ol hatchy with the d16z6 and 5 speed stick...

Any pointers? Drop the tranny only, yank the whole deal out? I want to do this in a day/weekend.

honda-tech blows chunks for info. Typed in anything to do with clutch and all I got was "will this clutch handle the horsepower from my air intake, header, exhaust, and wing?"

you should have all the room in the world to just drop the tranny out... not like an earlier hatch where its a bitch cuz of the radius rods...

Should I be thinking about replacing the slave and mastercylinder aswell? I know I'm gonna have to get the flywheel surfaced cause the chick I bought the car from must have slipped the ---- out of it. It chatters like a -----.

odd that you say that?? are you talking pre-90 honda hatches or 90-91 because i have no issue dropping just the trans in my hatch to do a clutch. so far ive done it three times. once to put a new clutch in, the second time to replace the trans, then the third time to put a new clutch/flywheel in place. ive never had any trouble at all. 4 hour turn around time from tear down to back together and on the road.

slave and master should be fine, leave them alone till they dont work... YES have the flywheel surfaced forsure!!! also check the rear main seal to make sure its not leaking, if so replace that. also check the throwout bearing and pilot bearing if they didnt come with your kit...

Yea the kit comes with a new throw out, and pilot bearing. I think I'll just do a exedy oem kit or the xtr stage 1. Just want the car to be easier to drive with no chattering.

I plan on flipping it once the chevelle is on the road.(3 months waiting for friggen parts), then I'll find a cleaner hatchy to have fun with.

One other question., are the power racks notorious for leaking? its leaking like a tampon that can't absorb anymore. Can a new boot be put on?
