Default DIY Nitrous kit guru's thread

So I'm thinking about how fun it would be to do a DIY nitrous kit and I'm wondering if any nitrous guru's see a problem with what I want to do.

Ideally I'd like to go with a zex type kit because it controls the hole ----, so my plan is to get a 10 lb fire extinguisher and start from there. For the control ---- I'll probably use an rpm window switch. The lines are a no brainer, and then all I'd really need is solenoids.

Any of you guys know of any problems with a setup like this? We haven't had a nitrous thread in a while, so lets get some info up.

No way! You didn't actually try that did you? I would be really pissed if I got whipped cream in my motor...

you might run into problems getting that fire extinguisher filled. i've seen some hardcore redneck off road shops that do nitrous fills; that might be your ticket. what kind of pressure are those things rated for?

most bottle valves and solenoids take a -4 fitting

an rpm window switch in conjunction with a WOT/microswitch is the BEST to activate everything.

stay away from teflon tape, use teflon paste to seal everything up, should be good to go.

i'm kind of a nitrous nut, so post up any questions you might have, maybe i can send you in the right direction.

I don't have any direct questions. I was looking at nitrous kit options for my car (scheduled to be completed in 2009) and I thought we should have a good thread about different ways of setting up cheap nitrous kits. Maybe more for the archives than anything.
