D16z6 head on a dohc zc block?
Is it possible to bolt my z6 head onto my dohc zc block? I know the head bolts right onto the block but not sure if the pistons would clear the head cause they are higher in the middle than the z6 pistons. I've been doing some reading and people have been saying the sohc heads won't interchange witht the dohc zc blocks and vise versa. Can any confirm this.

Nope

One head bolt is also slightly off and would need to be filled, drilled, and retapped. So not worth it for a d-series...just pick up a cheap d16 bottom and swap the pistons from your zc into it if you want way too high c/r ;D

What was it that, that one guy did? A dohc zc head onto a 1.5 I think or vice versa but it's been done. Not worth it though. Probably as worth it as much as a minime swap. :3

Yeah I think you guys are right. One of the studs didn't line up. What if I put the zc pistons and rods into a z6 block? The valves in the dohc head seem further apart under the head. Anyone ever used dohc z pistons with a z6 head? Will it also give me higher compression too?

Would the dohc zc pistons and rod clear with my z6 head? Anyone?

Reading owns you.

Re: D16z6 head on a dohc zc block?
Budget D-Series all motor.
Search for the Weez here on HMT. But not worth it! |
Re: D16z6 head on a dohc zc block?
it would give you 12.0:1 comp. not too high. imo
i'd do it if i had all of the ----. |
Re: D16z6 head on a dohc zc block?
I got the pistons if you want!!!

Re: D16z6 head on a dohc zc block?
What about boost applications. I want to boost it after installing my zc pistons and rods. Would that be a no no???

Re: D16z6 head on a dohc zc block?
Why don't you do some basic research, and then make up your mind?

Re: D16z6 head on a dohc zc block?
hahaha. All your questions have been answered millions of times here. Just search.
And Yes....you can boost at 12 compression. I've seen a few very famous honda drag guys do it before and I've done it myself. Its not the boost that blows your engine up...its the spark at the wrong time. Of course chances of detonation is higher with compressed air and higher cr.....but you can still boost....just not as much as volume won't allow. the zc pistons w/ the z6 was pretty cool for its time. The zc pistons were quite awesome. They have characteristics resembling the ctr pistons...except the coating. I say they're pretty good bang for the buck...just tune it properly and enlarge the valve reliefs a bit ;) |
Re: D16z6 head on a dohc zc block?
Yeah I've been doing alot of reading lately and basically everybody says the same thing. But what I can't seem to find is, can a higher compression pass smog. I think it can with a proper tune but what about a stock z6 map?
