Is there a real benefit to this I'm missing? Why not just pick up a z6 block for like $100 or maybe less?

Nah, just raise the deck on a Z6 with longer rods. Easier, cheaper, and will make more power.

If you're me in wisconsin you're lucky to find a z6 for less than $600. I can get a smoker with no distributor for $250. Other than that they are pricey. I dont see how it could cost so much to have the b7 main's bored out to 58mm.

your removing almost 1/2" of material.........on a machine made to remove .020 max per pass......

Thats 20 passes to get close.
