D16Z6 crank on a D15

Is it possible to run a D16Z6 crank on a D15B7 block...
i know rod bearings are different but what about main bearings, beacuse these are the important when swapping...

D15 mains are smaller.

anthing is possible if you have alot of money.

In theory it should be easier to machine D15 mains larger and use a D16 crank, than to build up D16 mains and machine it smaller to use a D15 crank.

Why do you want to use a longer bore in a shorter deck height block? I don't think you can find shorter rods, and you'll have to notch your block even more than you would than if you were just switching over to beefier rods, since the rod angle of attack (not sure what the term for that is) would be even wider.

why not just go with the D16 instead. Its not worth all that trouble and later found out it you could just get a D16 and save yourself some headache. my 2 cents

I was thinking about that, It would actually be pretty inexpensive.

except the info is all wrong.............

How do you machine a piece of metal LARGER??????

Now cutting a D16 crank down to work in a D15 has been done, but it required welding and offset grinding.........

it also went 10.77 NA in the 1/4 :)

Easy, add metal first of course. Duh.

I think he meant opening the main bore from 48mm to 58mm, then drop in a D16 Crank....

That would be about $600 in machine work alone.......

I'll do it with a hole saw and a drill press. :S

Also it depends if you can get a homie discount or not.

Re: D16Z6 crank on a D15

Is there a real benefit to this I'm missing? Why not just pick up a z6 block for like $100 or maybe less?

Re: D16Z6 crank on a D15

exactly :)

Now a D15 crank in a D16 block, longer rods, good for NA build.

Nah, just raise the deck on a Z6 with longer rods. Easier, cheaper, and will make more power.

Re: D16Z6 crank on a D15

I have no clue how much it would cost to deck a z6, would it really be less?

Re: D16Z6 crank on a D15

D15 goes 10.77 NA without VTEC

MADMAX is having a wet dream :)

Yeah idk that seems like it would be really expensive...

What was wrong with my d15, it never went 10.77 :1

If you're me in wisconsin you're lucky to find a z6 for less than $600. I can get a smoker with no distributor for $250. Other than that they are pricey. I dont see how it could cost so much to have the b7 main's bored out to 58mm.

Re: D16Z6 crank on a D15

your removing almost 1/2" of material.........on a machine made to remove .020 max per pass......

Thats 20 passes to get close.

Re: D16Z6 crank on a D15

D16a6, deckplate, 140mm rods, custom cam, and BIG boost and 10k rpm !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bone1 12-01-2006 03:42 PM

Re: D16Z6 crank on a D15

if your adding a plate, 140 mm rods will be too short :)

go with the 6" c-c rods :)

if your sleeving, the cost isn't that much more......

Re: D16Z6 crank on a D15

use a d16 block and mill the deck down, get shorter rods and pistons with the rist pin location moved up (any good piston company will make the piston without any problems all they do is change the program on the mill machine)
it might be cheaper that way.

not worth it!
