d16y8 intake manifold issues

I have an 88si with a d16y8 and I have been using the stock ecu and intake manifold. I recently switched to a pg7 ecu and the y8 IM, TB, fuel rail and injectors. I am using the y8 map sensor and moved the AIT sensor to my intake piping about two inches from the TB. What do I need to do with the charcoal canister, dashpot and purge solenoid vavles. Can i just do away with all of this. The car has a really bad miss at low rpm and will hardly start. Do I have a vaccum problem or is thier something else I need to know. the y8 is out of a 2000 and is an automatic.

is the SI an auto or a stick? You need an IACV for it if is a manual.

Re:d16y8 intake manifold issues

In am using the original 88si 5 speed tranny. Did my car origonaly have an IACV if so where is it located? What about the charcoal can and all of that stuff? Can I just pretend it isn't there and not use any of it? I've been told to use a throttle body off an early 90's integra LS. Is this an upgrade or will it make all this easier for me?

Re:d16y8 intake manifold issues

1) the IACV sits on the back of the manifold.
2) they came with your car stock
3) the auto manifold does not have the correct mount on hte back for an IACV.
4) the LS TB wont hel you if your not running correcty, youll hae to find some way of gettthing the ICACV in there somewhere.

good question

Re:d16y8 intake manifold issues

It's not that I want to go to obd2. I've been told that the y8 flows better than the a6. I had the intake laying in my garage collecting dust and it looks a lot better than the old one. The fuel rail definetly looks fatter than the old one and once again all this was just laying around.

Re:d16y8 intake manifold issues

the Y8 does flow better but it sounds like you are converting your entire car to OBD2

Re:d16y8 intake manifold issues

Simple answer all auto y8 96-00 don't have an iacv valve. remeber it is what the ecu needs that counts. The ecu should be looking for a iacv I believe like code 14. Just get a manual y8 man and your good to go. Also the other stuff is needed for smog but if you don't have smog in your arear you good to go. The crappy idle and misses is the lacking of the iacv valve

isn't that what you already have?!?!?!?!

Re:d16y8 intake manifold issues

Isn't the iacv on the bottom of the y8 throttle body? Just use that instead of tapping new holes on the back of manifold where there supposed to be. If you look at the back of the manifold you can see that the spot for it but it just needs to be drilled and tapped for the iac to go there. Just go and get the throttle body bored out and shave some headaches. I'm planning on doing a y8 mani onto my y7 head used in a 4thgen.

Re:d16y8 intake manifold issues

sorry. :-[ I had a brain fart. I got a manual Y8 manifold and got it put on the begining of the week. I had to do away with the resistor box and that got rid of a lot of my miss but it still has some at low rpm. I'm still unsure about the charcoal canister and dashpot and purge whatever junk. Can someone elaborate on this please.

what does your spark plugs look like? and the Y8 auto TB ahs the IACV at hte bottom of the TB but its a 3 wire and y6ou need a 2 wire to worht with twhat you are doing.

Re:d16y8 intake manifold issues

Here's something noone has brought up yet.....In mid-2000 honda added an air injection system to the IM. If you have it, there will be a nipple ON the IM flange between the #2 and #3 runners pointing straight up. this needs to be either hooked up or plugged up. It will cause your idle to be all whacked out if not dealt with.
