Default D16y7 swap

Im new to all this Honda stuff. I recently bought an 00'Civic DX. This car is slow as ****. I want to put a new engine it it but I'm looking for a decent amount of power and something I can boost. I know a B18c puts some power and torque to the ground but the compression seems a little high for me to risk boosting too much. Some people have told me an LS block and a b16a head is a great combination for low compression power. I dont want to go crazy on it,300 whp would be awesome. I will be doing to work myself but Im not sure about the swap. What am I looking at switching to a B series motor from a D series? Is it worth keeping the d16 sohc? Dont want to spend much money if possible 2500 at most....

2500 budget, get a LS motor. They are alot cheaper then their VTEC counterparts. To install you can use 00 Si mounts.

of course your D is worth keeping.
put a '99-'00 y8 mani on it with
a teg T/B or keep your y7 one and
turbo it,HMT style for half that much.

Exactly. Since your new to the honda thing, do a small project first. Swap a vtec head on your dx block, and turbo it. It's cheap, and you'll learn your way around your engine compartment in no time. You would just throw the dx motor away right? Now you don't have to, and you definately don't have to spend $2500

I would pop an LS in that thing and turbo it, for $2500 you could definitely have a decently fast and reliably boosted car. Putting a Y8 head on that would bump compression and make it turbo unfriendly, Gimpycivic just threw a rod turboing his mini me. Not saying that will happen, but why not keep it safe, especially with $2500.

Ok I blew my D16y7, no boost no nothing. Engine had 80k miles and ran great....it also had 3 in customer exhaust which I did not understand on a normally aspirated engine. I think I broke the timing gear which stopped the flow of oil. Engine still turns but very slowly. Not fast enough to start. I will be doing a swap this weekend for another d16y7 i picked up for 300 bucks. Im pretty sure that will get me familiar with the engine. Ive worked on many chevy/ford engines so Im not an idiot. Just not sure where the best combo is in the honda world. Im definately looking into the LS\VTEC combo. Looks promising. Anything crazy I may encounter when doing this swap?
