d16y7
is a y7 a ok motor to build? strengths/weaknesses compared to other d16's? i might be getting one dirty cheap or possibly free and attempting a budget build for boost. is the y8 head alot better? id rather not go with a vtec head unless theres a worthwhile gain in flow or somthing.

Re: d16y7
nothing wrong with a Y7... build that ---- up... i got some SRP pistons for sale ;)
|
Re: d16y7
is it worthit to swap a y8 manifold on to it? it would get boosted anyways so i dont know, i do remember when i turbo'd a friends y7 i had to download special scripts n ---- to get the thing to run right cause of the 3 wire iacv
|
Re: d16y7
only three wire from the automatic equipped vehicle, swap the manifold and your golden, or even the iacv.
|
Re: d16y7
no, there 3 wire in all y7 auto or 5 speed, y8 auto are 3 wire
|
Re: d16y7
i already converted my harness to 2 wire anyways for my ls motor.
hows this kit look http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/D16-C...QQcmdZViewItem |
Re: d16y7
auto d16y5 hx's have the 3 wire has well

Re: d16y7
New to the site --- but this is a good topic to post on.
Just boosted my 98 civic d16y7 motor this past wk-end. Runs strong, and was a very easy conversion minus a couple of small hold ups...like getting that nasty 14 code to clear (iavc)...pretty sure its just a bad sensor at this point though ??? we shall see - havn't been able to locate a replacement yet >:( |
Re: d16y7
swap the y7 mani with the y8. the y7 is small and weaksauce
|
Re: d16y7
word. do the ports match? how bout a z6 manifold, i think i know where to get one cheap.. the y7 manifold really doesnt seem that bad, it looks like it would flow even they way it spits off from the middle, but it does have small runners i guess

Re: d16y7
What is it going into? I like the y7 but it still have the oiling problems as the rest of the y series motors. My y7 lasted a good 3 months running 14 psi. Then spun a bearing but I still drove it for another 3 months and ran like a champ under 3k. lol. Over 3k...knock..knock...knock..
|
Re: d16y7
ya it seemed like a good deal, anyone heard of this oiling problem with the y motors? i was reading some ---- about modded oil pumps and someone mentioned using a z6 crank
i think somones gona give me 900 for my ls swap then i shoulda have money for this build, i dont really know how much to expect to pay for machine work though |
Re: d16y7
you posted that right when i was, ya im a little worried about this oiling ----, i wanted to make like 250whp if i built it, its going into a 96 LX 4door currently has a ls swap , i actually have a turbo setup ready to go on then i got this motor free
|
Re: d16y7
So what better pump can you go, is there even an afermarket one available? It must be soo common on the ys cause iv just got hold of 2 with spun rod bearings.

Re: d16y7
the y7 intake mani belongs in the garbage. the d16y8 has a much better design for airflow
if you want to swap manifolds, use a manifold gasket for the manifold you're using, and use the throttle body gasket for the TB you're using some general info if you do want to swap... auto y8's are pnp to the y7, manual y8 manis can be used, but you need to block off the air injection and iacv holes while using an auto tb, or your y7 tb with the throttle rotor and spring swapped over. PM me if you need more clarification/help with this matter. yes, the y series have shitty oil pumps, but you can port out the holes for better flow, here is a link to a DIY for oil pump porting. enjoy :-* http://www.turbod16.com/viewtopic.php?t=36600 |
Re: d16y7
You are a ------- champ. Looks like ill have a go at that then. :6

Re: d16y7
i read that ---- about the pump, the block has bad oiling too tho i thought
if my car is already wired and throttle cable setup for a LS cant i just use whatever manifold, like a z6? |
