Re:d series trans
i dont know. ??? ive never heard of anyone breaking one of these tranys, but i would say u wouldnt have to worry about upgrading unless u are running slicks, then u would start snapping axles, then after u got stronger axles u would have to upgrade the diff. :-\

Re:d series trans
i know one guy who's broken 3. mostly due to his gorrilla ass missing shifts, doing stunna burnouts at every light, spinning tire like crazy at autox, and just being a complete dumb ass behind the wheel. first one was the input shaft bearing, then the countershaft bearing somehow walked itself out of the case :o, and lastly the already weak diff blew on him during another 6000rpm idiot drag launch. this guy's a retard by the way.
if you have a 95 and below, broken shift forks are common however. mista bone says he goes through one every race season. but the 96+ trannies are pretty solid overall, upgrade the diff and you'll be set. most of the time, it's not the trannys fault, it's the person controlling the tranny that is to blame. |
Re:d series trans
D-series trannys have weak Diffs have seen many with holes in them.

Re:d series trans

Re:d series trans
Gone through seven trannys and going on 8!

Re:d series trans
damn man 7 trannies? wuts up with that. Mine held up good on 10 lbs. of boost for 6 months and still going. But on the other hand my friends went in like 2 weeks after he turbod his car. I guess it all depends on driver and just the cond. mileage etc. that was on it. Ive also heard though like the main bearing going out on them. not sure though.

Re:d series trans
i've broken a 1-2 shift fork shifting hard at the track, and my little bro exploded his differential doing a burnout.
honda trannies are weak. |
Re:d series trans
mine has over 160k on it (96 cx) and has a slight 2nd gear grind that it always had. its been boosted for almost a year, and currently holds 16 psi launches on drag radials with a twin trac (which works btw, i did a little burnout yesterday)...then again a kid i know with the same car has gone through at least 3

Re:d series trans
i have 143,000 on mine and it shifts nice and smooth, maybe becuase most of those miles are hwy. miles

Re:d series trans
my trann is the man...has yet to let me down...knocks on wood.. ::)
|
Re:d series trans
I have never broken anything on the inside of my a tranny, but I sure did ---- up the outside of one. I have done several 6500rpm drops and the tranny held up fine. :-\ I guess some are stronger than others? Kinda like how some motors blow within a week of boosting and some just keep going and going......

Re:d series trans
I've broke a few shift forks and a few diff's on some l3 trannys before.
The ZC L3 tranny is the strongest of the bunch. |
Re:d series trans
im on my 3rd and well this one is grindin like a mo fo. all in all very reliable if you can shift.

Re:d series trans
its important to remember that civics arent sports cars, they're economy cars, they didnt design they trannys to hold up with tons of a abuse and high-horsepower motors with slicks.
