well i have new pistons and pins, just need to use the stock rods. will i mess up the rods if i try to get out the pins w/ a press?

no you should be fine just the pistons are an issue

well I used a press and a deep socket to push out the pins. Only damage to the pistons was from being pressed into metal. If I had put a 2 by 4 or some rubber under it, it would have been fine. No piston breaking or anything though, so I think I'm gonna press the new pins in to the new pistons myself, just use a lot of lube and some rubber under the piston, should be okay.

wood is not strong enough to be used to support the piston for pressing.


I tried using 6x6 timber, 3" holesaw, then split into half, drill a hole to accept the pin as it was pressed out.

The wood would crush, leaving to a crooked piston, not able to press it while crooked.

well, I just said ---- it and decided to see what would happen if i tried to press the pistons back in. I took some assembly lube and put it all over the pin, inside con rod, and inside piston holes. I cut some slits of 3/4" MDF I had layin around and put the piston under the press on its side(obviously) w/ the mdf underneath the hole on one side of the piston. The MDF would squish for a little but then it would hold. I measured the pistons at the skirts right below rings and at bottom before and after and they stayed exactly the same. The little MDF block turned into a perfect mold to hold the piston straight up in. I would suggest putting in your own pins using this method if anyone wants to save money, which just about everyone on this site does.

For pressing the pins out I would just say to use some MDF and cut a hole in the center or somethin if you are reusing the pistons.
