CRVtec or LS/Vtec
Hey people, im thinkin about acquiring a civic in the next 2-3 weeks and wanna swap out the d16 in favor of a frankenstein, i just cant decide between the LS/vtec and the CRVtec. I've been searching around the net and i get mixed reviews, and all i ever hear about is "r/s ratios" how it sucks on the LS/vtec and is almost perfect on the CRVtec, help me people !!!!! Also i plan to boost, so keep that in consideration. thanks! ;D

Re:CRVtec or LS/Vtec
go with the ls/VTEC the crvtec has weak sleeves i personaly like a b18b with a b1b head but what ever

Re:CRVtec or LS/Vtec
if i were to go ls/vtec what head would work best, i heard the B16 is the best, any other ideas?
|
Re:CRVtec or LS/Vtec
well that all depends how much money you have you could put a b18c5 head on there ;D or maybe a b18c1 but i would find a nice b16 head

Re:CRVtec or LS/Vtec
the gsr head will never flow as well as the b16 head. my setup is a b18b bloack with a full factiry rebuild and a 99 b16 head. its my daily driver and i ran 14.7 in it with a full interior in my 92 civic ex sedan. should have been faster too, look in my signature

Re:CRVtec or LS/Vtec
I'm sure thier are advantages, but doesn't anyone think that the tech guys from honda would've gone with whatever head on whatever motor to make power. I'm not trying to start a fight, I run mini, but I've heard more :( then :)when it comes to d/b combos. Ya figure if those japs didn't do it, it was probably for the best. They have equipment most of us would kill our mothers for, and probably test all types of ideas.

Re:CRVtec or LS/Vtec
just boost an ls or crv motor. screw the frankenstein crap that wont make a fraction of the power a good turbo setup will.

Re:CRVtec or LS/Vtec
I know someone running a boosted B18A1..with a small ass T3 A/R 48/42 he ran a 12.22....good engine management.

Re:CRVtec or LS/Vtec
you should go with an b20 vtec becuz if your turbocharging it, the b20 block has good low compression which is perfect for turbocharging. the b18a/b18b is also good but the compression is higher which means your chances of a blown motor are greater. having the b20 is best if u would like to boost alot

Re:CRVtec or LS/Vtec
Ive heard of way more guys blowing up CRVtecs then LS/Vtecs.. any truth to that? Ive seen stripped hatches run mid 13s with just and LS/Vtec and a stage 4 clutch.

Re:CRVtec or LS/Vtec
i would go with the ls/vtec...everyone i've seen runs like a raped date. And even though some say a crv/vtec makes more power, i've also seen more of those destroy themselves. It's a shame the b16 doesn't have more balls to it, because out of all the b-series it has an almost perfect r/s ratio. Plain and simple, go with the ls with a b16 head.

Re:CRVtec or LS/Vtec
B18a/b on a budget is perfect or lsvtec ofr more $. If you go B20 CRV I'd suggest you sleeve it. How much $$$ do you wanna spend ???
|
Re:CRVtec or LS/Vtec
A B18a/b and B20b/z share the same R/S Ratio, So no advantage. The B20 has weaker sleeves, but more displacement, so it would theoreticly make more power. But a higher chance of blowing up. I'd go with a Ls/Vtec.. My personal fav.. a Poormans vtec ;D

Re:CRVtec or LS/Vtec
I'm going to make an LS/VTEC so you know all the cool kids are doing it.
|
Re:CRVtec or LS/Vtec
I like my LS VTEC, hella lot faster then my old b16 and the torque kicks. Plus it IS cheaper than a CRVTEC with better sleeves. I haven't boosted it yet so I can't say anything about that. Abaz has had both setups, if he recommends the LS I would trust him.
